Essentially the purpose of science fiction is to explore philosophical questions posed by human development, and to illustrate these issues in a setting that allows the questions to be dramatically explored in an entertaining fashion.
So Blade runner explores the notion of what it is to be human, and what alive really means, god made man, and man made the replicant, is man the replicants god? The resplicants hate man for limiting their life span, should man hate and resent god for doing the same? These are all sci fi questions.
Star wars is a pseudo religious adventure set in space, it doesn't ask any deep questions or explore any challenging conventions. There is nothing wrong with that of course, it just isnt science fiction.
SCI FI doesnt mean just anything set in the future.
