As far as I know, there has never been much success in pirating games and playing them online, assuming you have an adequate key system? I'm against more intrusive fixes, but couldn't developers implement a key based, online requirement for single player games, the same they do for multiplayer? Maybe plugged into a steam-like component(if not steam itself) that would assure proper validation.
I mean, if you have a computer capable of playing most modern games, there is a very small chance you're not connected to the net.
I don't know. Maybe I haven't read enough into the tech behind it all, but I've always figured this would be a good fix. Ugh.
