I don't get it. This thing is retarded expensive for a cell phone. I hated paying $200 for mine. Now if I actually needed all the PDA stuff I'd go for one of those blackberry-type things, but seriously. wtf? Is it because it's Apple and it's hip to like Apple stuff? How does all that warrant two-and-a-half-times the cost of a normal, fully functional cell phone?
Most importantly how is the voice quality? All services seem to use as low quality as possible, I can barely understand people on the phone unless they enunciate perfectly. Is this a service bottleneck, or is it restricted by the phone?

The iphone does seem like a cool product (awesome marketing skillz) that would be handy to have, but not at the cost of buying into their latte-flavored hype.
I'd like to buy one but I don't need one. I wanted to know why others were buying into the hype. Listen man, if you like the iPhone, good for you. There's no need to be the standard-bearer for Apple, though. They've got their genius bar for that.
This post: http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?id=14672299 led me to post this: http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?id=14672398 which you seem to take issue with. Another way of saying it, I guess, would be "Right, what's the big deal about a cell phone/ipod combo?"
