PlayStation Experience 2016: The Last of Us Part II Reveal Trailer

Joel and Ellie are back at it again.

27

PlayStation Experience 2016's PlayStation Showcase ended with a huge reveal. The Last of Us Part II was revealed in a trailer featuring Ellie and Joel sometime after the events of The Last of Us.

The game is said to be in a very early state of development and not even a tentative release date was mentioned. It seems that The Last of Us Part II will center around vengeance, as Ellie makes a comment about not stopping until she kills everyone of some group. Which group? Who knows? Hopefully we'll find out more on Naughty Dog's sequel to the hit game The Last of Us soon.

yea if you get annoyed by the actual gameplay just drop it the easiest level and forget about it. The actual game part is just a sidenote imo...

This reaction has always confused me. I love survival horror and stealth games, and I thought TLOU delivered on both. It wasn't ambitious but didn't need to be; its mechanics were straightforward and tight. It was my favorite game of 2013 and not just because of the excellent story.

If story is all you're after in a video game, just watch a Let's Play on YouTube. Games are meant to be played, and TLOU is excellent.

yep, same. gave my 2nd playthrough a go in that and it was very achievable if you had the patience. felt more realistic and as dangerous as the cutscenes portray their world to be

Uncharted is the same, the gameplay is the weak part, the story and graphics the good part. Drop to easy mode.
Especially stealth bullshit. (I've never played TLoU but fuck stealth regardless)

Ehh. I found the gameplay fairly derivative and a little on the bland side. Nothing really all that new, no real hook. Pretty standard 3rd person gameplay (uncharted, tomb raider etc). But that was fine because the non-gameplay part was the (massive) hook for me.

I disagree with just watching it on youtube (although Ive watched all the key set pieces several times since) though... that (at least basic) level of personal involvement and progression is important (imo) and does contribute to the experience for sure.

Yeah, the mechanics were not really that good; oh lookey let me throw another one of these 6000 conveniently placed bricks or cans around. I never finished it, but the story and environment was great, I should have done the same and just dropped it to easy and finished out the story,

Serpico is right, if you haven't owned a 4, you'd be a grade a dipshit to buy a regular now, pro or bust. Just wait until the game actually comes out, it'll be $50 cheaper with a free game and the PS4 will probably genuinely have at least 10 fantastic AAA games by then.

I don't agree with this at all. The problem cannot even play 4k blu rays and it's their fucking platform. No real compelling reason to buy a pro imo

No UHD playback sucks, but in hindsight Sony stopped caring about media with the OG PS4 when they didn't even make a proper remote for it.

There isn't much of a reason for PS4 Pro outside of VR right now. More and more games will start taking advantage of the hardware though, Horizon for sure. Who knows, there might be an even faster PS4 out in three or four years when Death Stranding and TLOU 2 finally ship.

Oh make no mistake, I fucking hate the fucking pro, I think it's a cunt of an idea and bad for console gaming. However if you can get over that and just look at the 2 systems side by side. The cost from PS4 slim to PS4 pro and the differences? Yeah, foolish to buy the slim.

I guess...I respect your opinion but when the Xbox slim can do 4k blu rays and ps4pro cant...that is a big fuck up imo.

I'm just going to buy a dedicated UHD player when the time comes. I have an Oppo for Blu Ray right now and its way better than even the PS3 as a media player: https://www.oppodigital.com/uhd/

I'm still unhappy that Sony won't be doing UHD but they clearly had a price that they wanted to hit.

I'm buying the pro for the games and don't really care about uhd discs working or not.
How much do you think that drive would have upped the cost on the Pro?
It's been worth is so far when it comes to playing VR and it's nice knowing I'm going to get the higher quality setting for my games.

I've seen that theory tossed about elsewhere also. I like it. It could explain why she didn't react to the sudden appearance of someone (Joel). She didn't even look to see if it was someone she may have missed. She's basically on a revenge spree. But then again, some of the early trailers for Last of Us had scenes that weren't in the game.

Yea the theory I like is that Joel was killed by the fireflies as retribution and now Ellie is on the warpath. The Joel she's seeing is a figment of her imagination.

That kind of red herring would be awesome. I'd love it if they took it farther and he was killed and she was a bit insane from the whole thing. Mental illness is rarely portrayed in a serious light in video games so it would be interesting to play as a protagonist that had to deal with it in addition to all the other problems that exist in The Last of Us universe.
