Ah, the days of old-school live action cutscenes. They hold a certain charm and have a distinct appeal. But when combined with some of the best space combat ever to grace the PC, they're downright immaculate. PC gamers now have the opportunity to re-live the mid-90s classic Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, thanks to EA's ongoing Origin "On the House" program.

Wing Commander III originally hit Mac in 1994 before blasting onto PC two years later. The story follows the continuing Terran-Kilrathi War, with Colonel Christopher Blair assigned as Wing Commander of the Victory starship. The game is heavy on Hollywood talent, with a cast that includes Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, and Tim Curry, among many others. The high-end production is complemented by intuitive space combat designed by Chris Roberts, who many of today's PC gamers will recognize as the man behind the upcoming Star Citizen.

To pick up the standard edition of Wing Commander III for free, simply grab it from Origin before September 2.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
