As you can't have a Nintendo platform without a Mario game, the company naturally announced one during its E3 showcase today. New Super Mario Bros. U continues the four-player co-op tomfoolery from NSMB on Wii, but also lets someone help them out using the tablet.

In 'Boost Mode,' the player with the tablet can place blocks that speed the characters along. Handy if you've got four friends who want to play, then, or simply for speedrun fun.

A wingsuit, blowing bubbles, level-illuminating orbs, underwater sections, and the usual Mario merriness were on show too.

I hope that screenshot is just horribly resized or something. There's no way it should be the blurry mess the current Wii is.

To me this is the biggest weakness: 8GB MLC NAND for Applications.

Shows that they still don't care about downloadable games.

Yup 8GB SSD is a real deal breaker really, you'd have to use SD cards or external HD if it is supported.

They said that an external hard drive would be supported via the USB 2.0 ports they've got on there, still rather shitty though, was expeciting at least 32GiB internal if they went flash again.

left out the best part, the controllers only have 3-5 hour long battery life.

What do you expect? As long as they're rechargeable I don't see why that's a problem.

Do you own a PS3? The charging cord isn't long enough to play from most couches reasonably without having to move your ps3 to your feet. if they go this route, they need to have cords at least 10 feet long.

I don't disagree with you, but usb extension cords are damn cheap. Hopefully we won't all have to buy one, though :P

if they include a charging cord, i don't see why they wouldn't make it at least as long as the GameCube controller cord. it's cheap enough.

What's the average battery life of a smartphone when running graphics intensive apps? Probably comparable, if not worse, than this gamepad. People don't seem to cry doom over that. I'm guessing they will just have a long cord as they usually do so it won't be an issue.

we aren't talking about an ipad. We are talking about a video game controller that you use to play games on your tv with. If this thing were portable then we'd be able to compare the two.

The only difference I see is that the gamepad requires the WiiU unit. It's the size of a tablet, it records and plays video, it streams video wirelessly, texts, interacts with the internet and so on.

I'm not trying to rag on you or anything. If they really do screw up and only have a short cord like the PS3's, then I'll be pretty disappointed to have to buy an extension.

I just don't think 3-5 hours of battery life is a huge deal breaker.

For some reason this looks good to me. I hope it isn't just wanting to see those nintendo characters in HD.
