By Jeff Mattas, Sep 13, 2011 5:30pm PDT

Microsoft has confirmed that the upcoming Windows 8 operating system will include built-in functionality for the digital Xbox Live service previously only accessible via the Xbox 360 console and (in part) on Xbox.com. Xbox Live's Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson) confirmed the announcement, which was revealed during the Microsoft's BUILD Windows keynote address.

"Bringing Xbox LIVE to Windows 8 is part of our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy," Hyrb notes on his blog.

No other details are available yet. Hyrb explains: "We have much more detail to share about the capabilities of Xbox Live on Windows and look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future."

If you're interested in checking it out, the BUILD keynote can be streamed online, here.
