Weekend Discussion: Dear Internet
by Chris Faylor, Jan 23, 2010 10:00am PSTI can think of no better way to end a twenty-plus year run at NBC than to assemble a rag-tag group of well-known musicians and have Will Ferrell cover "Freebird."
It's truly an inspiration to us all. Good on you, Conan.

Minecraft for Xbox 360 dev working on 'Adventure' update
My education really started awhile ago when I saw this thread on SA: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2113296 (free to view at the moment)
Like a lot of people, I don't want to spend a ton on pet food. So I used to just get the cheapest stuff from Costco, thinking it was OK. Well turns out it's mostly crap, at least the wet stuff, and most of the dry stuff. Nasty things like 'meat by-products'. The Costco brand dry cat food is good, though: http://www.flickr.com/photos/88699006@N00/2803358728/
So now I use Trader Joes canned cat food (59 cents, 49 for the pure tuna), and Costco brand dry which is fairly cheap.
Pet food companies are...hard to trust. Even so-called 'Premium' brands (that are very expensive) can have shit like by-products and corn in them. Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's good, and cheaper ones can be better.
Going to copy/paste the SA thread into reply so that I can always find it, never know when it'll get archived or something.

I'll go first: 27 Dresses. It's become my Road House. Whenever it's on cable, I always watch it.

I'm going to apply for a job soon and they're asking for that. I'm going to do my analysis on Lost Odyssey, and while I could write pages and pages about how awesome the game is and/or its few flaws, I don't know what in particular these guys want out of me, or even how long an acceptable analysis would be.
Totally not a Shackhype'd movie. You must see it even if you're just a casual sci-fi fan.

So, I just got done re-installing windows 7 on my mac pro and copied back over my steam directory. Everything works great except for one critical detail:
Mass Effect thinks I've launched it for the first time and won't load any of my saves. Were the saves kept outside of the steam directory and in the user folder instead? If so, where at? I did back up my entire user as well just in case.

Also, what's this Bayonetta game all about, I can't seem to find any sites explaining exactly wtf. goes on in that game. Of course in this country of censorship, I cannot get the demo on live.

As a kid, I saw whatever I could catch/tape in between homework and puberty, and I know the basic outline of the DS9 arc and TNG's mini-arcs, but there's a hell of a lot missing.
I will now begin to fill in those gaps by watching everything, everything, until my eyes bleed. Oh god I'm already overwhelmed. HERE WE GO

What do you think Cryptic's future-future-future plans are for ST:O? Some people on the official forums would like an overhaul of the Sector Space, I'm pretty happy with it as it is, but I would like it to feel more like space, no grid and an infinite view would be cool. Also, PvP is officially blowing my mind. The amount of times the enemy has got the drop on us by all coming from below or above is just awesome! Saying three dimensions is awesome hasn't really meant much until ST:O for me, at least.
And finally, Euroshackers, how many of you have purchased? I've just got a 12 month sub.
Much love. Alaricia and the U.S.S Liana

I have hl2.exe checked both boxes for Private and Public internets in the Windows Firewall page, and i updated my router's port forwarding lists to point to the IP of this new machine. Still no luck getting it to reach the Internet.

Reasons Why It's Worth to Be a PC Gamer in 2010

Every year I look forward to this guy's post. Sure, he lists a lot of games that may not ever see the light of day, but thanks to these yearly lists, I've discovered several games I may not have heard about otherwise. There's a lot of really fun stuff here.

Remo: Fuck, shit, assholes, fucking, damn
What: BATTLEFIELD 2 SHACKBATTLE!!
When: TOMORROW!! Sunday, January 24th, 2010, 9 pm est/8 pm cst/7 pm mnt/6 pm west coast
Where: bf2.shackbattles.com, pw boxcar
How: The latest BF 2 patch will be needed (1.5), no punkbuster, Teamspeak client to voice chat
Why: There is potential for a BF2 10v10 Shackbattle between Shacknews.com and DICE (but not at this battle). A lot of folks commented they hadn't play in a while. I provide this opportunity to rectify that problem.

The graphics in this game are so polished, and the freedom and complexity of the "world" are impressive. A++ should have started playing years ago.

It was fun, and they were showing a clips of a bunch of violent Aussie Rules football games. Then we ran into a few dudes who play for a local team.
Is Aussie Rules hard to learn? I can tell that it's fairly physically demanding, but I've been looking for a sport or something to play here. I'm honestly more worried about the toll it will take on my liver than the rest of my body. I may sign up, and have a friend who I think can teach me to play.. I just don't know what I'm in for.

If I want jossling and shit I'll play PGR or something. Rally should be about you against the different roads and surfaces, honing every corner and power slide, getting a real feel for the car to get the best time against the clock and other racers. Not who is better at monster truck nudging. :(

$10 at Amazon (Blu-ray): http://www.amazon.com/Last-Samurai-Blu-ray-Tom-Cruise/dp/B000JUB7LW/ref=sr_1_44?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1264357273&sr=1-44
Not a huge Crazy Tom fan, but doesn't mean he isn't in some good movies (Collateral, etc). Never seen Last Samurai, looks interesting though.

I've never really used RSS before but I'm trying to use it now to scour multiple craigslist cities for casual sex a car. Right now I'm using Google Reader and it's formatted exactly how I like but it doesn't update the RSS for 2-3 hours at a time.
I just want to use something that'll update every 30 minutes or so and send me an alert. Is there anything out there for this?

I really can't adequately put into words the appreciation I have for all the support you guys have given me. Honestly, this album wouldn't exist without the Shack and your encouragement and feedback. There's a bunch of wonderful reviews up on Amazon.com now, and even one up for iTunes so far. I've shipped nearly 200 physical cds out to Shackers around the world. I'm blessed to be part of this community and to know all you guys. Thanks so much.
If you're interested in the album, you can get it on a whole bunch of services now.

My own website (for signed physical copies) - http://www.monstunes.com/album
Also can be found on emusic, shockhound, nokia, the limewire store, lala and others. My website has the full first 4 songs if you want to preview the album.
This is my favourite review so far
Sometimes, I need to step away from the loud, obnoxious, ugly sounds of my preferred genre of music (metal and hard rock) and listen to something that's beautiful, relaxing, soulful and mature. Mons hits the scene with music that will lift you up and take you away, reliving memories of yesteryear as you close your eyes and listen to every note and sweep of harmony, driving itself straight to your soul. Mons is not only a tranquil journey, but an insightful one. - "Chowder"
Thanks for everything guys. :)
