Let's talk about pet food, and more specifically cat food.

My education really started awhile ago when I saw this thread on SA: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2113296 (free to view at the moment)

Like a lot of people, I don't want to spend a ton on pet food. So I used to just get the cheapest stuff from Costco, thinking it was OK. Well turns out it's mostly crap, at least the wet stuff, and most of the dry stuff. Nasty things like 'meat by-products'. The Costco brand dry cat food is good, though: http://www.flickr.com/photos/88699006@N00/2803358728/

So now I use Trader Joes canned cat food (59 cents, 49 for the pure tuna), and Costco brand dry which is fairly cheap.

Pet food companies are...hard to trust. Even so-called 'Premium' brands (that are very expensive) can have shit like by-products and corn in them. Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's good, and cheaper ones can be better.

When a job application is asking for an analysis of one of your latest favorite video games, and there are no details provided as to the length or preferred subject matter of the analysis, what would you suggest as for a format and whatnot?

I'm going to apply for a job soon and they're asking for that. I'm going to do my analysis on Lost Odyssey, and while I could write pages and pages about how awesome the game is and/or its few flaws, I don't know what in particular these guys want out of me, or even how long an acceptable analysis would be.

So, I just got done re-installing windows 7 on my mac pro and copied back over my steam directory. Everything works great except for one critical detail:

Mass Effect thinks I've launched it for the first time and won't load any of my saves. Were the saves kept outside of the steam directory and in the user folder instead? If so, where at? I did back up my entire user as well just in case.

A very, very good friend has lent me his boxed sets of TNG and DS9.

As a kid, I saw whatever I could catch/tape in between homework and puberty, and I know the basic outline of the DS9 arc and TNG's mini-arcs, but there's a hell of a lot missing.

A Weekend Star Trek: Online thread seems to fit right about here.

What do you think Cryptic's future-future-future plans are for ST:O? Some people on the official forums would like an overhaul of the Sector Space, I'm pretty happy with it as it is, but I would like it to feel more like space, no grid and an infinite view would be cool. Also, PvP is officially blowing my mind. The amount of times the enemy has got the drop on us by all coming from below or above is just awesome! Saying three dimensions is awesome hasn't really meant much until ST:O for me, at least.

And finally, Euroshackers, how many of you have purchased? I've just got a 12 month sub.

Since switching to Windows 7 and installing TF2, TF2 cannot seem to reach any servers. Any suggestions?

I have hl2.exe checked both boxes for Private and Public internets in the Windows Firewall page, and i updated my router's port forwarding lists to point to the IP of this new machine. Still no luck getting it to reach the Internet.

Trying to watch the second half of 24 from the other day. It's so bad. They're barely trying to make it look like NY and every plotline seems like its been ripped from a previous season. The police cars have California plates and theres plants and trees that you'd never seen in NY all over the place.I don't understand why they couldn't do it in NY if Law and Order has been able to for years.

Eve Online is the single best MMO I've tried since UO or EQ. Better than AC, better than WoW, better than Shadowbane, better than ST:O.

The graphics in this game are so polished, and the freedom and complexity of the "world" are impressive. A++ should have started playing years ago.

What's the best portable device that can be used as a SNES and Amiga emulator, taking controls, performance, software availababilty and screen quaity into consideration? The iPhone has considerable processing power, however due to the lack of physical buttons it will always be handicapped in this regard.

I'm looking to get a new laptop. I currently have a Lenovo T400--it's about a year and a half old--and I find it to be quite awesome. Any ideas of what I can get in a similar vein? Lenovo T410 looks like it might be a good buy and can include a pretty decent NVIDIA card, but I'm curious if there's some new hotness that I'm missing out on.

This weekend, I went out and celebrated Australia day. In Stockholm Sweden. In an Irish bar.

It was fun, and they were showing a clips of a bunch of violent Aussie Rules football games. Then we ran into a few dudes who play for a local team.

Is Aussie Rules hard to learn? I can tell that it's fairly physically demanding, but I've been looking for a sport or something to play here. I'm honestly more worried about the toll it will take on my liver than the rest of my body. I may sign up, and have a friend who I think can teach me to play.. I just don't know what I'm in for.

Am I the only one who wishes the Dirt series would ditch the Baja and other shit? I know it'll never happen since the Dirt series sales blew away the old CMR ones, but the WRC-style point to point racing is simply so much better.

If I want jossling and shit I'll play PGR or something. Rally should be about you against the different roads and surfaces, honing every corner and power slide, getting a real feel for the car to get the best time against the clock and other racers. Not who is better at monster truck nudging. :(

RSS Readers???

I've never really used RSS before but I'm trying to use it now to scour multiple craigslist cities for casual sex a car. Right now I'm using Google Reader and it's formatted exactly how I like but it doesn't update the RSS for 2-3 hours at a time.

I just want to use something that'll update every 30 minutes or so and send me an alert. Is there anything out there for this?
