Being an effective Guardian is all about your Power and Light in Destiny 2. Your Power and Light are also tied to your XP level. Events like the Leviathan Raid and Weekly Nightfall are tied to both and will be here soon, so it’s important to know how to level up fast in Destiny 2.
XP - Level Up Fast
The first tip to level up fast in terms of XP is to play the game. Your XP level will max out at 20, and it really doesn’t take long to get there. You will make significant progress just by completing the story missions, so that is the best way to get your XP level up fast; go enjoy the story in Destiny 2 and play through to the end.
Of course, if you reach the end of the story and you’re still not at XP level 20, your best bet to level up fast is to dive into the Crucible. You’ll earn a bit less XP per game there it seems, but it’s a fun activity that will provide you consistent XP gains, unlike wandering around aimlessly trying to figure out what to do. If you finish the story and put a few hours into the Crucible, you should already be at level 20.
It’s important that you reach the XP level max of 20 as quickly as possible because some of the gear that is more powerful and will increase your Light and Power is tied to that XP level. For example, in the early story missions you have likely found gear that you couldn’t yet wear because your XP level was too low. It also allows you to unlock new Abilities in your Subclass.
Light and Power - Level Up Fast
In Destiny 2, it’s easy to raise your Power (Light) level to 260. You can do any activity you desire. So long as you are grinding away at raising your XP level to 20, your Power level will constantly increase as you equip better gear. One you reach Power level 260, however, you will need to participate in end game activities to move from 260 to 300.
The first tip to quickly raising your Power from 260 to the max Power of 300, is to save all your Milestones until you hit XP level 20. The Power Gear awarded from Milestones can push you from 260 to 300, so no point in wasting it on the lower levels when it’s so easy to hit Power 260.
Once you’re at 260, you can increase your Power level by completing the Nightfall, or by stepping into the Leviathan Raid. Both activities will drop end game level gear that can help you level up fast.
As a final tip, consider creating two characters from the same class, even if it’s only temporary. The reason for this is that you will be able to complete the Leviathan Raid and Nightfall more than once per week, getting more shots at gear that can raise your level fast. This is done by moving the gear between characters using the vault system.
