VGX attracts 1.1 million viewers, producers prep for next year's show

Spike TV plans on doing another VGX next year, thanks to the success of this year's revamped show. 1.1 million viewers spent an average of 32 minutes watching the show (across multiple streams). The fact that #VGX was able to trend on Twitter is considered a success--even if those messages weren't particularly flattering of the show.

"Death to us would have been apathy," Viacom's Erik Flannigan said. "Death would have been no one talking, no one caring, no one having an opinion about it." And people were at least talking about it.

2013 Spike VGX winners recap

Hello Games debuts No Man's Sky

Indie studio Hello Games, makers of the Joe Danger series, debuted a trailer during tonight's VGX for an upcoming sci-fi next-gen title called No Man's Sky.

The trailer showed exploration across the seas before jumping into a first-person cockpit view and flying to a skyward world filled with treacherous deserts and starship battles. The game will be procedurally-generated, allowing numerous players to participate in the same world. Specific platforms have not yet been revealed.

Game of Thrones from Telltale confirmed

Tonight at the VGX 2013 awards, Telltale Games presented a teaser-trailer for the rumored Game of Thrones adaptation. It's coming in 2014, but the team said they're just getting started on nailing down how to showcase the characters.

Quantum Break debuts first gameplay video

Remedy Entertainment's Sam Lake appeared on this year's VGX to show off the first gameplay video for Xbox One-exclusive Quantum Break. The video shows off more of the game's time anomolies, as well as new dynamic cover-based shooting mechanics. Lake adds that there are numerous time-based powers to master, which Lake says are inspired by games like Max Payne.

Tales from the Borderlands coming from Telltale and Gearbox in 2014

The 2013 VGX kicked off with a world premiere trailer from Telltale Games and Gearbox Studios, who are collaborating on Tales From The Borderlands, a new episodic take on the Borderlands universe, set to come in 2014. Gearbox's Randy Pitchford appeared on the show to note that the game will feature elements from the Borderlands games with brand-new characters, along with Telltale's penchant for decision-based, story-driven gameplay.

Spike TV has rebranded its Video Game Awards show as the VGX, focused more on game reveals and world premiere trailers. The live stream is set to begin at 6:00pm EST/3:00pm PST with a pre-show look at Thief starting 15 minutes before showtime. Spike Video Game Awards rebranded VGX

Are you ready for the "next generation of Spike TV's Video Game Awards"? Spike TV has announced the launch of VGX, a "brand new live digital multi-platform event." Why such a fancy name? Because it will be streamed across Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, Twitch, iOS, and Android. It can also be watched online through VGXLive.com, Hulu, Yahoo, Spike.com, ComedyCentral.com, MTV.com, MTV2.com, BET.com, and GameTrailers.com. The show will be livestreamed for three hours on December 7, beginning at 3PM PT (6PM ET).

Oh, and "highlights" of the show will be on Spike TV as "VGX Replay" on December 9th.
