Dungeon Defenders 2 dropping MOBA features in response to fans

Dungeon Defenders 2 seemed keen to drop on the MOBA bandwagon, but the ironically named Trendy Entertainment has decided it wants to jump off now. The studio announced today that it will be removing the previously-announced MOBA features, instead focusing squarely on what they say fans have requested: refinements to the tower defense aspect.

Dungeon Defenders 2 announced: free-to-play with MOBA mode

A sequel to action-RPG tower defense Dungeon Defenders is on the way, imaginatively titled Dungeon Defenders 2. And, like almost anything with even a whiff of towers nowadays, it's picked up a competitive MOBA mode inspired by the likes of Dota and League of Legends. Announced yesterday by developer Trendy Entertainment, it'll be free-to-play on PC, Mac, browsers, iOS and Android.

Dungeon Defenders not coming to Vita

Trendy Entertainment's Dungeon Defenders made quite a splash when it released in October. The developer had hoped a handheld version would broaden the game's appeal when it showed a tech demo of the game off on the PS Vita earlier in 2011, but it appears the port is no longer going to happen.

Dungeon Defenders gets Portal Gun on Steam

As with Renegade Ops, Valve is letting a third party take advantage of its IP to promote the Steam release. Steam pre-orders of Dungeon Defenders will net you some exclusive Valve-related bonus downloadable content, most notably the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device for use in-game. In addition, you can get some Team Fortress 2-themed familiars.

Dungeon Defenders releases on October 19

Popular Unreal Engine-powered mobile game Dungeon Defenders is jumping from iOS/Android to consoles and the PC. Trendy Entertainment's hack 'n slash will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and PC on October 19 for $14.99 (1200 Microsoft Points).

“The console version of Dungeon Defenders has more content, more depth and more challenge than many full retail boxed games," Trendy's Jeremy Stieglitz claimed. "So we can’t wait to get it into players’ hands so they can experience this epic role playing game as it was intended to be played."
