MacRumors is reporting "that Civilization V for the Mac is due very soon -- likely in the coming weeks." No additional details are available at this time, but it is likely that the Mac version will be available through Steam and utilize Steamworks as its PC counterpart.
A Mac version was always planned, but Firaxis has been careful not to mention any release dates or timelines. Shacknews has contacted publisher 2K Games for more information, but for now, assume this is still just rumor.

NintendoLife spotted a possible update to the Wii Remote when retailer GameStop published (and removed) a page for the upcoming Nintendo published title FlingSmash.
If true, it is believed to be the Wii Remote Plus, which includes built-in MotionPlus technology. FlingSmash requires MotionPlus so it does make sense. Nintendo has previously bundled games with the add-on module, but this could represent a shift to an all-new line of Wii Remotes. Read more »

VG247 is reporting that a new NASCAR game is coming from Eutechnyx and Activision, which has reportedly acquired the NASCAR license. The license had previously been with Electronic Arts, but the publisher had no immediate plans for future titles in late 2009.
A forum page on the Eutechnyx for NASCAR 2011 appeared and disappeared, but the all-seeing eye of Google cached the evidence for all to see. Read more »

According to anonymous sources talking to Eurogamer, Peter Molyneux and Lionhead's Kinect-enabled small child simulator Milo and Kate has been cancelled.
Development has been halted and nineteen contractors have been laid off, the source said, and the development resources will be ploughed into Lionhead's Fable franchise. The tech behind Milo may be cannibalised for a "Fable-themed Kinect game," it's said. Read more »

According to "sources in Japan" speaking with 1UP, Vanillaware plans to release "downloadable ports" of its two cult-fave titles Odin Sphere and Muramasa: The Demon Blade.
Although the report does not specify platform for either supposed port, 1UP presumes the games would be released on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network as "high-definition" ports of the original titles. Read more »

A Walmart.com listing has sparked a fresh round of rumours that Team Ico's much-beloved PlayStation 2 exclusives Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be revamped and re-released in a bundle for the PlayStation 3.
Anonymous "industry sources" have told Eurogamer that the bundle is indeed real and will be released in March or April of 2011 for around $40, the price Walmart lists too. Read more »

[Update 10:30pm] Stardock CEO Brad Wardell has confirmed the layoffs in a forum post, attributing the cuts to Elemental's updated revenue projections following its launch.
"Elemental's revenue was anticipated to provide the revenue both for our main games team's next project as well as a second team," writes Wardell. "Unfortunately, that is unlikely to happen so we've had to start laying people off." Read more »

[Update 8/23 4:10PM] Bethesda has clarified to Shacknews that the Steam page "does not mean anything one way or another regarding Steamworks. Too early to discuss." It just confirms that RAGE will be purchasable through Steam when it is released.
[Original Story] During QuakeCon 2010, a placeholder page for id Software's Rage appeared on Valve's Steam service suggesting that the title will be using Steamworks for DRM, much like publisher Bethesda's other upcoming titles, Fallout: New Vegas and Brink. Read more »

According to "three separate development sources who have seen and used the new PSP," Eurogamer is reporting that Sony's next-gen PSP "is roughly the same size as the PSP-3000 and has touch controls on the reverse of the unit."
I imagine any touch-sensitive controls would be in addition to the standard PSP button-based controls. Backwards-compatibility is likely to be a big feature to any next-gen PSP, as it tends to be for handhelds. Eurogamer also reports that it is "more likely" that the new device will utilize Flash memory like the PSPgo and might not have any physical media. Read more »

At Gamescom 2010, a video (since removed) with Rock Band 3 running the background has been picked apart by fans and a new list of possible tracks has been circulating for new tracks for Rock Band 3, according to RockBandAide.
If this list is legitimate, some big standouts include John Lennon's "Imagine", Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird", and The Who's "I Can See For Miles"... but that's just my preference for classic rock showing. Read more »

A UK retailer had listed (since removed) a curiously named "Mortal Kombat Arcade Compilation" and described it as "MK 1, MK2 and Ultimate MK" and "the first MK to have a High Definition aspect," reports Eurogamer.
The franchise rights to Mortal Kombat now lie with Warner Bros., which will be publishing Mortal Kombat 9, known as Mortal Kombat. It would not surprise me to learn that Warner Bros. would seek to re-release classic games in the franchise, similar to how Capcom has been re-releasing its legacy fighting games through PSN and XBLA.
