League of Legends gets more human-like bots

League of Legends gets more human-like bots

Though most League of Legends players jump into the game to play against friends or against human competition, even the most experienced users need some practice. And preferably, that practice would come in a non-competitive, non-venomous environment. While AI bots have normally helped in this area, they'd all-too-often behave like bots, which is something Riot has changed in a recent update.

April Fools: League of Legends tests Ultra Rapid Fire (URF) mode

April Fools: League of Legends tests Ultra Rapid Fire (URF) mode

The best April Fools gags are the ones where you can still participate in. Take, for example, Google's collaboration with Pokemon. League of Legends is letting players preview a new "Ultra Rapid Fire" (URF) mode, supposedly coming as a major update for the next season. A preview will be playable for the next week, and lets players experience LoL if it were designed by internet trolls.

"The guiding principle of Ultra Rapid Fire is that players make plays, and making plays feels good," a new video explains. URF mode removes all ability costs, reduces cooldowns by 80%, and makes everyone move faster.

League of Legends bringing Team Builder mode into beta

League of Legends bringing Team Builder mode into beta

Riot's League of Legends has grown to include so many champions that the large number is downright intimidating. Where does someone even begin to figure out which one to choose from? And worse yet, what if that decision clashes with someone else's decision to pick that same character? Riot is going a long way to help prevent such scenarios by implementing a new Team Builder mode, which is set to go into beta in North America later this week.

League of Legends locking character roster to help new players

Even as perhaps the most straightforward of Dote 'em ups, League of Legends throws an awful lot at new players to learn quickly. Part of the problem is the free-to-play game only offers a selection of characters to everyone for free and rotates this selection regularly, so just as someone's learning a champion, they shuffle out and newbies must start over. So, soon, new players will have a fixed lineup to choose from.

How Riot used social experiments on League of Legends players

League of Legends traffics a lot of players on a daily basis--12 million at last count. That player count means it's bound to have some bad behavior, but it also gives developer Riot Games plenty of room for testing. It began a series of player behavior initiatives last year, and has detailed the results.
