Ghost Recon: Future Soldier beta coming in April for PlayStation Plus members

PlayStation Plus members are entitled to a number of games as part of their subscription. In April, Plus subscribers will be able to download Shift 2 Unleashed, Shank 2, Frogger Returns, Canabalt, and the very original Silent Hill.

While this content alone makes April a banner month for Sony's premium subscription service, there is an extra bonus that should serve as a cherry on top for Plus members: access to the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier beta.

PlayStation Plus minis not working on PS Vita

In addition to Vita games, and select PSP games, the Vita can also download bite-sized minis off the PlayStation Store.

While purchased minis that are officially backwards-compatible on the Vita work as-expected, many PlayStation fans have been disappointed to discover that the "free" minis offered to PlayStation Plus subscribers monthly are not working on their new handhelds.

Velocity releases on PSN in March; free for PS Plus

FuturLab, the developers of Coconut Dodge, is bringing its space-shooter called Velocity to the PlayStation 3, PSP, and PlayStation Vita sometime this March. The game is described as a "high quality homage to the classic games us older folk remember fondly," but there are some welcome twists; namely, a unique feature that allows players to teleport themselves.

Simpsons Arcade, Final Fantasy V, Far Cry 2 for PlayStation Plus members in February

PlayStation Plus members are entitled to a number of games as part of their subscription. In February, Plus subscribers will be able to download The Simpsons Arcade Game, PSone classic Final Fantasy V, and Far Cry 2.

However, that's scratching the surface of what is easily the biggest month for Plus subscribers. In addition to the aforementioned games, PS+ members will also get access to the Sega Genesis Bundle, which includes Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2, and Streets of Rage 2.

Starhawk releases on May 8th, public beta begins today

As previously reported, the Starhawk public beta will begin today for PlayStation Plus members. (Private beta users have continued access to the public beta.) You'll have about four months to hone your skills before the official release of LightBox Interactive's spiritual successor to Warhawk. Sony has announced that Starhawk will be on store shelves on May 8th.

Starhawk public beta begins next week for Plus members

If you missed your chance to get into the Starhawk private beta, don't fret. The public beta is about to begin very soon. In fact, it will be available for PlayStation Plus members beginning next Tuesday, January 17th.

Everyone that had access to the private beta is welcome to continue playing the public beta, with or without Plus access.

Creat Studios' new minis title for PS3 and PSP is based on the characters and world created by Luc Bernard. Like Nintendo's long-running series, Mecho Wars is a top-down, turn-based strategy game. You'll have to mine resources, maneuver troops, and win battles as you try to fight your way to capture the enemy HQ. The minis title promises to include a campaign, and same-system multiplayer.

Back to the Future, Swords & Soldiers for PlayStation Plus members this month

PlayStation Plus members are entitled to a number of games as part of their subscription. In January, Plus subscribers will be able to download Telltale's Back to the Future and Ronimo's Sword & Soldiers for "free." In fact, both games are available to download right now.

In addition to these two PSN games, Plus members will also receive access to Stick Man Rescue (minis) and the Syphon Filter trilogy of PSone classics.

Marvel Pinball, Tomb Raider Underworld free for PS Plus members in December

PlayStation Plus members are getting a pair of sizable bonuses this month in the form of free versions of both Tomb Raider: Underworld and the PSN title Marvel Pinball. The PSone Classics section of the PlayStation Network will also welcome the first three games in the Spyro franchise.

Spyro and Underworld arrive free for Plus members tomorrow, December 6, while Marvel Pinball will be free on December 13.

Where is my Heart coming to PSP/PS3, free for Plus members

Where is my Heart? It's a title that draws attention. This debut game from indie dev Die Gute Fabrik is coming to the PlayStation Minis program, and its novel gameplay has us quite intrigued.

The platformer offers a rather interesting visual twist, breaking the frame into multiple pieces. Why? "I was interested in expressing the sense of being lost and without orientation via pure game mechanics," game designer Bernie Schulenburg explained.

Hydrophobia Prophecy PS3 releases November 1st, free for PlayStation Plus members

The PS3 version of Hydrophobia comes with a number of new features and enhancements over the Xbox 360 original. Hydrophobia Prophecy will add support for the PlayStation Move motion controller, and promises to be "far and away the best looking and best playing version of the game on any platform," according to developer Dark Energy's Peter Jones. "It's in a different league compared to the original release."

According to Jones, not only have many game systems been reworked, the story has been reworked to be "deeper" and more "compelling."

Plants vs Zombies, Resident Evil collection free for PlayStation Plus members

Today's PlayStation Store update holds a number of excellent perks for PlayStation Plus members. If you haven't jumped in yet, the Assassin's Creed Revelations beta has begun, and is available for Plus members. In addition, today's update grants free access to five games: Plants vs. Zombies, Astro Tripper, Altered Beast, Bashi Blocks (Minis), and Jet Moto (PS1).

Plus subscribers will be able to get additional games as part of their membership later in the month. However, the most noteworthy additions come from the Resident Evil franchise.
