A multiplayer demo for Gears of War: Judgment will launch alongside the Xbox 360 exclusive on March 19, Microsoft announced today, showcasing its new class-based competitive 'OverRun' mode. Pre-ordering from GameStop will net you a few days' early access to the demo, with progress carrying over into the full game.

Episode 7 of the renewed Spartan Ops season for Halo 4 debuts on Monday, and a per usual, Microsoft has unveiled a teaser for the five-mission co-op package. In this go round, embattled scientist Catherine Halsey gets a bit of payback for her current house arrest.

Gears of War: Judgment is a prequel, taking Baird and Cole back to a time when only weeks had passed since the Locusts started stirring up trouble. So it makes sense that Microsoft and Epic Games are giving newcomers a free refresher course as a bonus, packing download codes for the original Gears of War in the initial run of Judgment.

Halo 4 marks Master Chief's triumphant return, bringing him out of a long slumber in a post-Bungie world. Not only does 343 succeed in taking over such a beloved franchise, they add depth to the series. Case in point: the story transforms Chief from the emotionless soldier we first met back in Combat Evolved, without compromising any of the qualities that make him such a badass character to begin with.

343 Industries has treated Halo 4's "Spartan Ops" like a television show, right down to a mid-season hiatus. They've been rerunning episodes in the off-time to give new players a chance to catch up. That break ends next week, though, which will begin a new set of five episodes to finish out the first season. Episode 6 will provide you with more co-op action on January 21.

Halo 4 franchise director Frank O'Connor has taken a postmortem-style look back at the game, concluding that 343 Industries first effort in filling the big shoes of departed developer Bungie "wasn't half bad," and helped the studio learn a few things for future iterations of the series.

Doritos Crash Course, the free adver-game sponsored by the overused gamer stereotype snack chip, has gotten its first and so far only bit of downloadable content today. If you just loved running the courses but ran out of them too fast, like a tiny bag of heavily dusted corn chips, you can pay about two bucks to get ten more, also like a tiny bag of heavily dusted corn chips.

Crimson Dragon, the Kinect shooter inspired by Panzer Dragoon, is still without an official release date. But it appears developer Grounding Inc is almost ready to show it off. A demo recently went up on Xbox Live in Japan, but has since been removed. Thankfully, one ardent fan was able to capture footage from the trial, giving us all a look at what to expect.

Moving your Xbox Live account to a new region can be a pain, but Microsoft is working on a new tool to make the job easier. A web tool slated for a mid-January release will let users migrate accounts quickly and with just a few simple clicks, rather than the current system that can take significantly longer and usually involves a call to tech support.

Microsoft is continuing to plunge ahead in its attempts to use its Xbox brand as a one-stop entertainment box, and a new acquisition may help it reach that goal. The company has reportedly acquired R2 Studios, a start-up that was previously focused on mobile apps that enable home automation.

For Achievement hunters, one of the most compelling reasons to pick up a Windows Phone is the ability to earn Gamerscore through Xbox Live-enabled games on Microsoft's mobile platform. However, Achievements are no longer exclusive to Windows Phone devices. You can finally earn Gamerscore on *shock* an Apple device.

Microsoft's first foray into free-to-play on Xbox Live has become something of a success. Today, the developer has revealed that Happy Wars has reached over 1.2 million players worldwide. Given the price of entry is simply an Xbox Live Gold account, it's unsurprising that players would give it a try.
"We put a lot of effort into making a game that would appeal to every type of player, but it is still incredible to see so many join the battle so quickly," game director Yoichi Take said in a press release.
