Tropico 5 trailer has El Presidente doing his best Jack Sparrow

Tropico 5 trailer has El Presidente doing his best Jack Sparrow

Tropico 5 starts out in early colonial times, which may raise the question of what El Presidente was doing in the heady days of forging the New World. A new trailer gives us that answer, with a generous dose of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Tropico 5 debut gameplay trailer goes from shacks to skyscrapers

Tropico 5 debut gameplay trailer goes from shacks to skyscrapers

Tropico 5, you may be surprised to learn the debut gameplay trailer reveals, looks an awful lot like earlier Tropico games, and a bit like most other city-building sims. But it also shows more of the centuries-spanning timeline and technology, from the huts of 1800 to gleaming skyscrapers in 2028.

Tropico 5 coming to PlayStation 4 too

Tropico 5 coming to PlayStation 4 too

The "dictator sim" series (dictate 'em up? No, I can't make this any sillier) Tropico began life on PC, later spreading to Xbox 360 too, and now is finally coming to PlayStation with Tropico 5. Publisher Kalypso today announced it'll hit PlayStation 4 too, which is a bit curious as T5 is on Xbox 360, not Xbox One. Oh, the ways of publishers are many and mysterious!

Rise of Venice preview: a trading sim for everyone

Rise of Venice preview: a trading sim for everyone

Let's be honest: the "trading sim" genre isn't the most appealing type of video game out there. For many, the notion of looking at spreadsheets and adjusting item values to capitalize on supply and demand is the furthest thing away from "fun" one can imagine. Yet, Kalypso Media is doing something truly unexpected with Rise of Venice: it's making a trading sim that can appeal to a much wider audience.

Central to Rise of Venice's appeal is the campaign mode, which will slowly introduce the various mechanics that power the trading genre. It's inherently an intimidating genre, so having some structure immediately appeals to newcomers. The story that ties everything together is also genuinely intriguing, with you having to navigate not only the economics of the Renaissance, but the politics as well.

Tropico 5 revealed in first screenshots

Tropico 5 revealed in first screenshots

The announcement of Tropico 5 earlier this month may have revealed details on building centuries-spanning dynasties and co-op and all that jazz, but conspicuously absent was any peek at how the game actually looks. So here, check out its shiny all-new art in the first screenshots (hint: it looks a lot like a Tropico game).

Tropico 5 introducing dynasties and multiplayer

Tropico 5 introducing dynasties and multiplayer

After Tropico 3 revived the city-build strategy series, Tropico 4 was a pretty safe sequel--not bad, but not bold. How pleasant, then, that developer Haemimont Games is getting creative with Tropico 5, announced today by publisher Kalypso. Spanning several centuries, it'll see El Presidente building a lasting dynasty, and boast four-player co-operative and competitive multiplayer t'boot.

Dark E3 trailer drops gothy beats

Dark E3 trailer drops gothy beats

Before you watch the E3 trailer for vampiric sneak 'em up Dark, remember that before vampires were adored by teenage girls struggling with awkward yearnings, the bloodsuckers were doted over by teenage girls struggling with awkward yearnings while wearing gobs of black eye liner. That's why it uses this song. So on with the show.

Omerta - City of Gangsters preview: messy gang war

Prohibition was a dark time in American history. With booze outlawed, pinstriped-suited criminals engaged in bootlegging, racketeering, and other illicit activities. Kalypso Media and Haemimont Games, the team behind the Tropico series, are taking a piece of this action with their city-building sim, Omerta - City of Gangsters.
