Dark Souls 2 PC graphical options revealed

Dark Souls 2 PC graphical options revealed

The first Dark Souls on PC was poor due to time constraints, and producer Takeshi Miyazoe readily acknowledges that it lacked a lot of the options that PC players expect. From Software is aiming to change all that with Dark Souls 2, and a look at the graphical options show the kinds of toggles we might see in the follow-up.

April Fools: Dark Souls 2 patch to offer difficulty-easing item

Update: GameSpot pulled the curtain back to reveal a this was one of the more subtle pranks of the day, so Dark Souls 2 will remain cruel to newbies after all.

Dark Souls 2 will be getting an update to ease players in more gently, at the expense of souls. A "Bonfire Sybaritic" effigy will come with an upcoming patch, earning you less souls but making enemies easier. Players who activate the effigy will also retain full health while Hollowed, and use stamina less quickly.

Dark Souls 2 trailer sings a 'Hollow Lullaby'

"This isn't about death," says the latest Dark Souls II trailer. "This is about what you've learned from death." And given how often death comes in Dark Souls, you should expect to learn an awful lot. Lesson #1: Don't stand directly in front of a fire-breathing dragon.

Dark Souls 2 'Black Armor Weapons Pack' gives a starter boost

The Black Armor and Collector's Editions of Dark Souls 2 will include access to a "Black Armor Weapons Pack," letting you use a special set of armor and weapons early. The set is pretty extensive, and would naturally make the game a bit easier at the outset, so Dark Souls devotees are more likely to go without.

Undead players can be invaded in Dark Souls 2

Undead players can be invaded in Dark Souls 2

Reaching human form is one of the more rewarding aspects of Dark Souls, but there's always been a trade-off. Achieving humanity could leave players susceptible to invasion from other players, leading to PvP combat. Dark Souls II looks to cut out that middle man entirely and allow undead players to be invaded, as well.

Dark Souls 2 trailer warns of a Cursed life

Dark Souls 2 trailer warns of a Cursed life

"Your wings will burn in anguish, time after time, for that is your fate" a new Dark Souls II trailer warns, "the fate of the Cursed." Your curse is that you're an idiot, idiot. Look where you're going. Don't rush in. You haven't even seen that monster before, so don't just start hacking at its leg. And why would you jump down that hole in the ocean?

Namco Bandai wants mobile Dark Souls game, but developer is resisting

"We'd like to bring Dark Souls to mobile," Namco Bandai director of global strategy for mobile Alex Adjaj said. However, it's not happening because the developers at From Software don't want to do it.

Obviously, mobile is a hot target for publishers, and Adjaj points to the growing install base of handheld devices across Asia. However, the Dark Souls leads argue that a mobile version "won't be Dark Souls anymore."

Dark Souls 2 'will be a good PC experience'

Dark Souls 2 'will be a good PC experience'

The PC port of Dark Souls was "sort of half-assed," From Software told us earlier this year, and gosh, wasn't it just, with wonky controls, and a fixed 720p resolution until a fan's mod fixed that. These problems were actually "expected to a certain extent," From has now said frankly, and reiterated its plans to make things a lot nicer on PC for Dark Souls II.
