During the surprise Nintendo Direct today, Nintendo shook things up by closing with the announcement of Dark Souls: Remastered for the Nintendo Switch. The marks the debut of the franchise on a Nintendo console and players can prepare to die on May 25.

Near the end of the Nintendo Direct, ominous music played as the camera move in on a dying campfire. An armored character silhouette stood over it before reigniting it and the title was then revealed. The new version of Dark Souls will also be coming to Xbox One and PS4 and will feature improved framerate and resolution over the original release. It will also include the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.

If you've yet to try out the series, check out our write up on what made Dark Souls great. Also, I'd suggest not playing the game undocked at first if you're a new player. There will be rage and I'd hate for you to toss your Switch across the room in anger.

For PS4 players only, the Dark Souls Trilogy Box was announced and it includes Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition, the Waka Fire and Senior Knight book ends, art sheets with dedicated frame, three item encyclopedias, special case, and all three soundtracks.
