Club Nintendo to offer downloadable games

You haven't been throwing away those little pamphlets Nintendo tucks away in their game boxes, have you? Each box includes a Club Nintendo code, which can be used to earn points on a variety of prizes. It appears that the service is being updated with the ability to redeem points. The lower-priced options should be an affordable alternative for members that can't get quite enough points for a Mario-branded backpack, or a Game & Watch DS cartridge.

As a bonus, it appears the initial selection of games is quite inviting.

As part of its ongoing 25th Anniversary celebration, Nintendo is releasing The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition today as a free DSiWare download. The updated game will be available to download on DSi and 3DS, but for a "limited time only."

Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary releases September 28

Nintendo is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Zelda franchise in a number of ways: an upcoming Wii release (Skyward Sword), free soundtrack CDs, and even a concert. There's even a free game, if you go to the Nintendo eShop with your Nintendo DSi or 3DS system.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition will be available as a free DSiWare download beginning September 28th. However, don't dilly dally--the offer is valid only until February, 2012.

Nintendo 3DS eShop system update due in June

Back in January, Nintendo revealed that the 3DS 'eShop' digital store and Internet browser wouldn't be included when the fancy new handheld was released in March, instead launching in a system update. At the time, Nintendo expected to launch it "late May" but the company revealed yesterday that it'll in fact arrive in June.

The system update will be available to download over wifi in North America on the evening of June 6, Pacific time. It's also expected to add an option to transfer DSiWare games from a Nintendo DSi to a 3DS. Nintendo didn't give a full list of all the update will bring, only saying that it'll add "new features and enhancements" and highlighting the eStore and browser. Read more »

Mega Man X, Bit.Trip Core demo hit Nintendo downloads

Mega Man X, Bit.Trip Core demo hit Nintendo downloads

It's time for your weekly spate of Nintendo downloads, and this week actually offers a few games you might be interested in. Virtual Console brings Mega Man X for $8 (800 Wii Points), the Super NES title that began the long cycle of Mega Man spin-offs to come.

On WiiWare, indecisive gamers can try a free demo for Bit.Trip Core, which should give you a good idea of whether you can subject yourself to that level of difficulty without going mad. Possibly less exciting is My Little Baby for $6. It's Nintendogs with little humans instead of Labrador puppies. Read more »

Nintendo 3DS eShop, Browser and DSiWare Transfers Due in Late May

While the Nintendo 3Ds is due to launch on March 27 in North America for $249.99, several of the handheld's useful features won't be available until "late May," company president Satoru Iwata revealed in a financial results briefing last week.
