Diablo 3 Demon Hunter Hands-on Preview

Related Topics – Diablo III, , Diablo 3, Preview, PC, BlizzCon 2010

The fifth and final Diablo III character class was revealed at BlizzCon 2010 and is the Demon Hunter. I got a chance to play through an early part of the game as the ranged class and found the class to be quite fun.

Although the Demon Hunter is a ranged, weapon-using class, you will be able to utilize some dark magic for a few spells and special attacks. At present, the class felt a bit overpowered, but the game hasn't begun balance tuning and it could have also been setup for an easy, but enjoyable demo experience. Read more »

Diablo 3 PvP Arena Hands-on Preview

At BlizzCon 2010, Blizzard announced that at least part of the player-versus-player experience in Diablo III will take place in a team arena. I got a chance to play a three versus three match for about forty-five minutes.

Only three of the five classes were playable in PvP, but they were sufficiently powered-up with numerous skills. I tried all three and while I think I had the most success with the Wizard, the Barbarian and Witch Doctor both had effective abilities and combat roles. Read more »

Diablo 3 PvP Arena Battles Announced

As well as revealing at BlizzCon that Diablo 3's fifth and final class is the Demon Hunter, Blizzard has announced that the action-RPG sequel will offer a player vs. player arena battle system complete with team fights, ranked games and matchmaking.

Taking place in carefully designed arenas--unlike Diablo 3's random dungeons--the battles will let you use "the character of your choice, with access to all of the gear and skills you've accumulated playing the game in single-player or cooperative mode." Read more »

Diablo 3's Final Class Revealed: Demon Hunter

The fifth and final Diablo 3 class has been revealed at BlizzCon 2010 to be the Demon Hunter, a dark and mysterious ranged specialist who wields two crossbows.

The Demon Hunter boasts skills including 'Fan of Knives,' 'Molten Arrow,' 'Grenade,' 'Bola' and 'Entangling Shot'--seemingly a good mix of area-of-effect damage and crowd control. Brian's off to play with the class and will report back with his findings, if he can tear himself away from playing. Read more »

Blizzard Details Diablo 3's Health System

Related Topics – Diablo III, , Diablo 3, PC

Blizzard has updated its Diablo III page with some details on the game's health system, which primarily utilizes health globes to restore the health of a player and his party without the use of potions or spells.

While much of this has been known for years, the Blizzard post does offer some insight into how boss encounters may work given the game's reduced focus on quaffing sweet potions. Read more »

Rob Pardo on Blizzard's Success and Failures

During his Game Developers Conference 2010 presentation, titled "Making a Standard (and Trying to Stick to it!): Blizzard Design Philosophies", Blizzard executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo discussed the company's past games and examined some of the successes and failures within these games.

The talk was obviously geared toward game developers, but I found it incredibly interesting to hear a Blizzard executive's opinion on which systems and game features were successes or failures. Additionally, past failures helped the company make improvements in a later game. Read more »
