The "Game of the Year" repackaging is quite common in the video games industry. However, have you ever seen a sports game so brazenly don the accolade on its box?
2K Sports has announced the surprising Game of the Year edition of NBA 2K12. It will be available March 11 for Xbox 360 and PS3--exclusively at Best Buy stores.

Unlike the PSP, every game on the PlayStation Vita can be purchased and downloaded on the PlayStation Store. In Japan, digital versions of Vita games sport a discount over their retail counterparts. But will America follow suit?
Update: The answer is "yes." A Sony representative has confirmed the discount. "I can confirm that there will be a discount on the downloadable PS Vita titles from PSN. Exact details have not yet been revealed, but be on the lookout for an announcement in the very near future."

Nintendo announced a partnership with the retail chain Best Buy today, to offer 3DS wireless access and SpotPass content. Roughly 1,000 Best Buy stores across the US will be outfitted with the WiFi functionality starting June 7. Not coincidentally, we're sure, this is just after the eShop launch and falls on the first day of E3. The press release teases "exclusive offers" via SpotPass, plus game content and movie trailers.
Nintendo can already push special content to 3DS owners who connect their devices to their own WiFi network, but the partnership with Best Buy could benefit both companies by offering incentives to come into the store. So far, we're not sure what content may be offered, or even which Best Buy locations will offer the access points. Read more »

Ahead of its October 19 release, Activision has teamed up with Best Buy to put a new demo of DJ Hero 2 in over 900 retail locations in the United States. The demo will feature quickplay, multiplayer, and freestyle modes. The following mixes will be playable in this in-store demo:

Test Drive Unlimited's PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release will be on September 21 in North America, publisher Atari announced today as well as revealing the wide variety of retailer-specific pre-order virtual bonus items for Eden Games' racer sequel.
Described by Atari as belonging to the MOOR genre--that's Massively Open Online Racing, acronym addicts--Test Drive Unlimited 2 boasts a persistent online open world as well as customisable avatars, houses and yachts to buy and show off. Read more »

Those looking to buy 2K Czech's old-timey open-world mobster game Mafia II now have several additional purchasing options, as publisher 2K Games today unveiled a "Mafia II Collector's Edition" along with some retailer-specific pre-order bonuses.
A specific price for the Collector's Edition wasn't mentioned in today's announcement, though retailer listings indicate that it commands a $20 premium over the regular edition, making the Mafia II Collector's Edition $79.99 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and $69.99 on PC in North America. Back when Alpha Protocol was due in 2009, retailer GameCrazy was offering an "Exclusive Stealth Pack" to those that pre-ordered the stealth-action RPG on consoles.
Since then, Alpha Protocol has been delayed--it's now due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 come June 1, 2010--and GameCrazy owner Movie Gallery, Inc. has declared bankruptcy and closed numerous stores. Read more »

US retailers includng Best Buy and Walmart are to halt tests of automated kiosks that bought used games after their supplier e-Play closed up shop, Industry Gamers reports.
e-Play kiosks allowed shoppers to trade in Wii, Xbox or PlayStation games for credit--on a gift card in the case of Best Buy while Walmart paid directly onto a credit card. The self-service kiosks also rented video games and movies. Read more »

Retailer Best Buy has begun a local test program that will allow customers to buy new games for the price of a used copy at competing stores.
The program was spotted at a West Jordan, Utah store by a CheapAssGamer forum member. A store billboard (pictured left) says that it will price match new games at used prices from GameStop or Game Crazy. Read more »

Retailer Best Buy is testing a new automated kiosk this week that will allow customers to sell used videogames and receive store credit in return.
The program, to be tested in Dallas and Austin stores initially, "allow customers to insert their used games into a kiosk that will scan it for functionality, and immediately issue a voucher that is instantly redeemable for a Best Buy gift card," according to Best Buy CMO Barry Judge. Read more »

The retail PC edition of Vogster's "persistent world next-gen shooter" CrimeCraft will only be sold through vendor Best Buy in North America, publisher THQ has announced.
BestBuy.com pre-orders for the game will open on May 31, with retail locations starting to accept pre-orders on June 7. Those that pre-order will get early beta access, a three-day head start on the launch server, and in-game Marc Ecko shoes. Read more »
