Tetris has 425 million paid mobile downloads

At Philly Tech Week, an interactive version of Tetris was played across skyscrapers. Hank Rogers, the man responsible for bringing the iconic puzzle game to the States, attended the event and revealed that 425 million paid downloads of the game have been reached on mobile.

Amazingly enough, that figure excludes packaged products, including the 35 million sold sold on the original Game Boy. And while it took 14 years and countless smart and not-so-smart phones to reach that number, it's nonetheless staggering.

Report: Android TV is Google's new set-top box

Less than a week after Amazon debuted Fire TV, it appears Google is ready to launch its own set-top box. Called "Android TV," Google's next attempt at taking over the living room will do pretty much what every other company is doing. "Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform," writes Google. "It’s all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction." It will be "cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast."

The Microconsole: Can Amazon's Fire TV succeed where others failed?

The Microconsole: Can Amazon's Fire TV succeed where others failed?

Amazon's Fire TV is the company's first attempt at a set-top box. However, unlike many of its competitors, Amazon is taking gaming very seriously, as evidenced by their recent acquisition of Double Helix Games and hiring of Portal creator Kim Swift. The company has numerous exclusives in the works.

But can Fire TV succeed where other Android-based consoles have not? For $100, it's clearly not going to go head-to-head with PS4 or Xbox One, but will Amazon be able to make an impact in the microconsole space?

Star Wars: A New Hope pinball trailer is doubly nostalgic

Star Wars: A New Hope pinball trailer is doubly nostalgic

Sure, pinball has been a cultural mainstay since the 1970s, but that's what makes Star Wars Pinball so appropriate. Zen Studios has just released a trailer for one of its upcoming Heroes Within tables, based on A New Hope, and it is exactly like watching the movie. If the movie involved steel balls bumping around the characters.

Amazon Fire TV announced, will get games from 2K, Ubisoft, and more

As expected, Amazon has announced an Android-based set-top box. Fire TV looks a lot like Vita TV, and features a quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and ports for HDMI, optical audio, and Ethernet.

Much like its other Fire devices, it'll have a heavy emphasis on media, launching with Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, of course. However, gamers will be most curious about the device's gaming capabilities.

Google has updated its Maps app with Pokemon. And while it may seem like an April Fools joke, it's true: launch the app, hit the search bar, "Press Start," and you'll be able to start hunting down Pokemon.

"We value employees who are risk-taking and detail-oriented, have deep technical knowledge, and can navigate through tall grass to capture wild creatures. It turns out that these skills have a lot in common with another profession—that of the Pokémon Master," the announcement reads. "With that in mind, we’ve worked with Pokémon and Nintendo to develop a new training tool to help people hone their Pokémon-capturing abilities using Google Maps."
