Rumors Persist of New Blizzard Game Unveiling

40
While developer Blizzard has yet to officially comment on the matter, rumors continue to circulate that the famed Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo creator will unveil a new title at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational on June 28.

The latest batch of activity comes from an Xfire.com update spotted by DiabloII.Net, in which Xfire encouraged users to "follow the opening ceremony and discover what new game will be announced."

Though Blizzard revealed StarCraft II at last year's Worldwide Invitational, that marked the only major announcement to come out of the event's three-year history.

As this year's Blizzard Worldwide Invitational takes place on June 29, the eighth anniversary of Diablo II's release, many have speculated that the company may finally premiere the long-awaited Diablo 3.

But if you look at their history, they don't like to announce everything they are working on and split their marketing/hype too much. In the past they have pretty much always only had 2 of the things they were working on public at any one time.

They make more money with wow than anything i know of. From looking at what they needs jobs for for the past year or so, one can tell they are working on Diablo (diablo artists and designs needed). The question to ask is: What are they doing with all the next Gen MMO people and does it relate to Diablo ?

And they've been hiring like crazy. They had 13 openings to fill for environmental modelers during GDC.

Because they are now big enough to work on 3-4 projects at the same time, if not more. And if they have a third thing ready to show and release in the next few years, then why the hell not? Even if Wrath of the Lich King comes this fall, StarCraft 2 next spring and Diablo 3 or whatever fall next year, it's not like you'll only buy one or two of those, you'll obviously buy them all anyway.

I'll buy Diablo 3 in a heartbeat... I won't buy StarCraft or EVER buy WoW.

Different markets. Lots of ppl will buy SC2 because it's a great RTS and the most others will buy it because it's a great RTS. But there are tons of ppl who don't care about an RTS.

Because Team 3 is working on an unannounced project.

so they've said they're working on another mmo.. AND they've hinted several times that they're going to announce Diablo 3.

So if there are only three teams...this must mean World of DIablo?

I hope it's not a normal mmo then ...it should be basically the same as diablo and not too complicated.

Can you link to where Blizzard has specifically stated that they're working on another MMO? I seem to remember an announcement along those lines but the wording was such that it implied it wasn't a true MMO the way WoW is.

The biggest hint to this was a job ad looking for someone to work on "a next-gen MMO" I believe.

I'm pretty sure they got at least 4 projects going: WoW, SC2, one more in major production and then a fourth that may only be in an early concepting stage (you still need one or a few coders and artists for this).

I also have this feeling that they won't announce a new game. Yes, they've been hiring lots of people, but with SC2 and WotLC in the works, I don't see them having something else, something major ready to be shown.

Its been like a year since SCII was announced, and its not coming out until xmas or later. If Diablo3 was announced this june, and its an MMO, we won't see it for another 2-3 years.
