It's the gameplay that drives the experience. There is no goal. You can do whatever you want with the rules of the game world:
1. The game is made of of blocks, of which 99% can be destroyed, collected, harvested for raw materials.
2. Day night cycle - at night the freaks come out (or in very very dark places) - survive the night (you die - everything in your inventory is dropped).
3. Crafting: different raw materials when combined make shit that helps you do what you want - faster.
4. Explore - every game world is unique when you start it. Build a massive fortress, or mine your way down to hell.
It's the same kind of game as Little Big Planet Builder, or damn near any Maxis title (simcity, the sims, etc) - in which you are given tools, and you're own imagination is the limit to what you want to do with those tools.
