I've canceled my StarCraft 2 pre-order. It makes me sad Blizzard is take ing this stance on crushing trolls.
I've changed my pre-order over to FFXIV instead. Any other FF Shacker fanboi out there going to join me?

I only deride the absolute ridiculous claims. Here we have people claiming employers will not hire people whose names show up on the battle.net forums. Yesterday abrasion claimed a person's dating life will suffer. We still have people claiming others will be murdered and stalked because of this. People repeatedly claimed Blizzard was making this retroactive, and that names were being made open in-game, to everyone, with a little mod -- two things that are demonstratively false.
The sky is not fucking falling.
Your real name will show up in their forums, if you chose to post there. That's it. Nothing more. Even if you chose to buy the game, you can avoid posting in the forums to maintain your privacy. You can not use RealID. You can not use the facebook integration. Your privacy will be maintained.
Blizzard is not forcing this on anyone. Blizzard is not being subversive. They are letting people know its coming. They will provide ample warning prior to entering and posting on the forums.
Have a kid on your account? Use the parental controls. Monitor your kid's usage. That's why they're there, and that's your job to make use of them.
Yes, I understand why people see this is a big deal, but no one is forcing them to use it even if they want to play the game. It's completely optional.
... and no, I don't buy this "I'm fighting for the idiots" bullshit people throw around. People like to bitch about their knee-jerk reactions. That's all.
