Are you serious?! What is it with developers like you -- Do you guys live in some sort of alternate reality that is completely out of touch and not even realize it?
One would think it impossible you could completely miss the storm of bad press and negative hype Modern Warfare 2 suffered with PC gamers (particularly former IW fans and CoD4 players) due to IW's poor attitude, feature removal, and general arrogance. Once it was confirmed how much they stripped out of multiplayer for MW2, it was game over. Infinity Ward killed the sales of their game on the PC. They did it to themselves and it was apparent for everyone to see. Except you, I guess. You somehow "missed" that glaring reality.
And it's not that PC gaming has changed, it's that some dev houses with console gaming experience who try their hand at PC gaming are disappointed when they can't milk PC gamers the way they can console gamers, and when they still try to do it anyway at the expense of the customer, they lose a lot of sales. The irony is when they then turn around and blame it on the PC gamers. For PC gamers though, it's not ironic, it's infuriating.
Console gamers have no choice, never have had one. They don't know what they're missing because they've never had mods, tools, console commands, dedicated servers, high player count games, etc, in their FPS games. PC gamers still do, and more importantly, have had those things and more for years. Yes, the choices are becoming limited, but we still have them, and more importantly we KNOW what a good game is because we've had plenty of them and those with some self control will refuse to buy console port trash just because it's hyped.
This really does sum up the console port trend perfectly: http://www.easyscreens.info/gallery/20091228/1.png
As for Borderlands? You guys lucked out once with good marketing and a game that, despite some utterly pathetic console-itis issues like the menu system, is a fantastic game. But based on how you've handled things post-launch, I would be VERY wary of buying your next game until it's been out and demonstrably successfully supported post-launch. That means actually fixing the bugs and not adding more in patches and not adding SecuROM to the Steam version of your games or DLC, which is completely unnecessary and has only one possible outcome, which is to cause problems for paying customers.
What is the REAL outcome of MW2's failure on PC? People like me are skipping it entirely, and we're keeping an eye on Bad Company 2 (and maybe Aliens vs Predator) to be the next FPS game of merit. And due to the hatred it engendered between IW and PC FPS players (especially CoD4 fans), if IW doesn't bring their next CoD/MW game to PC, most of us won't really give a crap because they did such a crap job with MW2 on the PC it's not like we'd be missing anything except some pain and anguish. Besides, there are plenty of other games to spend our money on and play.
