If it ever gets to the point where I have to pay to download the only gun that can kill the final boss or where I have to pay to download the final boss so I can finish the game, then that's going too far. Being able to pay for and download more of a game that I really enjoyed is something that I absolutely fucking love about this generation, even if the days of getting something solid for free are gone.
I remember when Capcom released the RE5 multiplayer stuff as DLC and all it was was a code to unlock it on your disc or something like that. I payed my $ and got a great, encapsulated experience out of it. Having to pay extra to get something that's not the core experience of the game is fine, especially if it took a bunch of resources to create. Maybe 5 years ago I would've been complaining loudly about things like that, but I live in a world where things cost money and people should get paid for their hard work, so I'm happy for them to get more value out of their work. I think any situation where a developer gets more money and makes the industry more of an attractive place to work is fine by me (I realise developers don't really see a whole lot of the cash, but still...)
