The problem with the "oh I'll let a calculator/computer do it" attitude is the approximations methods generally used by those machines are not perfect. They outright fail for certain classes of problems, they're not necessarily stable for all classes of problems, they can get stuck on solutions, etc. Good scientists and engineers are the ones that have a highly developed intuition for problems, and know whether or not a solution makes sense or not (which warrants further analysis). Idiots blindly follow the output of machines without knowing anything that goes on under the hood. What you're advocating is to train people to be idiots.
