there has been much debate about this, and are they "too much?"
At first i was like "fuck the haters" because we spend all this money on our PCs and finally a game comes a long that actually justifies that expense. A hardcore, fuck the newbs, system-killing game.
All praise Crytek. Raise the bar and all that shit.
But then again, I was able to play EP2, Portal, Bioshock and Cod4 at 1920x1200 with everything maxed at 60fps, and I liked it.
Crysis? I have to play at 1600x1200 with a mixture of medium and high settings, and it runs at about 30fps. It's playable, but barely.
So on the one hand I praise the move to the next gen and how it will really push technology. But on the other hand I wish it was a bit less demanding and ran better on very high end systems like my own.
So I'm conflicted.

But if you're saying that PC hardware doesn't exist that outpaces the 360, I don't agree. A high end PC today is more powerful than a 360. Consoles have a very minimal window of outdoing the PC. Yes, most people do not own a CPU/GPU that can outdo a 360 but it does exist.
In any event, I do agree that some PC gamers should put away their pride and live with the notion that Crytek has put out a game and engine that is bleeding edge and future proof and simply put requires a beefier PC than exists today for maximum benefit. Every game is playable at 30fps.
I think the real beef people have with future proof PC games and engines is in the fact that unless the game is some watershed moment, they won't come back to play it later when it runs better. There's simply too many games out there vying for your time and money to go back and play some old game because it will look better now. Maybe this will change but it does feel like realistically, people won't be firing up Crysis again in late 2009 to see what it looks like this time.
