there has been much debate about this, and are they "too much?"
At first i was like "fuck the haters" because we spend all this money on our PCs and finally a game comes a long that actually justifies that expense. A hardcore, fuck the newbs, system-killing game.
All praise Crytek. Raise the bar and all that shit.
But then again, I was able to play EP2, Portal, Bioshock and Cod4 at 1920x1200 with everything maxed at 60fps, and I liked it.
Crysis? I have to play at 1600x1200 with a mixture of medium and high settings, and it runs at about 30fps. It's playable, but barely.
So on the one hand I praise the move to the next gen and how it will really push technology. But on the other hand I wish it was a bit less demanding and ran better on very high end systems like my own.
So I'm conflicted.

And I disagree that in the last 3 years PC devs have stopped advancing graphics tech. In the last 3 years, the GF8 series (and it's ATI equivlant I suppose) came out, with support for a brand new coding base, which we all know as DX10. No console as of right now supports DX10, and it's been one of the major innovations in graphics technology of the past few years. Think about it, HL2 came out, a few months later, Lost Coast was around bringing that technology thats in every game today...what was that, oh yeah, High dynamic range, or, a cheaper, less awesome looking version, "Bloom". Also, as a side not, I believe HL2 can run in hardware DX8, but was designed at it's top end to run hardware DX9. I personally ran it on a hardware DX8 card when it came out, and it ran fine.
As for the last bit, about what it takes to run 360 games on PC....Gears of War...? I've got an AMD 5000+ 2.6gHz, 3GB of ram, and an 8500GT 512mb, and Gears runs smooth as silk on my machine, with every setting on high...it truely is an amazing game by the way, you 360 owners lucked out with it being console exclusive for near a year.
