It's been a rough week for the employees of Daybreak Game Company following the brutal bout of layoffs. While the top members of the PlanetSide 2 team appeared to be safe, they are not coming out completely unscathed, as long-time creative director Matt Higby has tendered his resignation.

"Working on Planetside 2 has been the absolute highlight of my career, but after 4 years working on the game, it's time for a change," Higby said on the PlanetSide 2 subreddit. "Today was my last day on the Planetside 2 team and at Daybreak games. This is a move I've been considering for a while now, and the reorganization provided the right opportunity for me to exit."

PlanetSide 2 is still in line to introduce new features over the coming year, including Battle Islands for the PC version and the final release of the PlayStation 4 version, which is currently in beta.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Fuck. Anything to do with this is now fucked. There will almost certainly not be an EQNext and now this. Ps2 is an awesome game.

It was fucked anyway. They were too arrogant to accept that PS1 had done a lot of things right and ended up having to drip feed features back in to fix all of the problems their 'innovations' had fucked up with a game of this scale.

The twist is that without Higby there isn't even a PS2, Smedley loves Planetside but he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing with that company. I honestly wish they had stuck with the PS Next concept, but what we got in PS2 was a breath of fresh air for a period of time where we had nothing.

The game is actually doing very well, but this is going to kill it.

Fuck that sucks. Higby was super passionate about PS2 and interacted with the community, going to be a huge loss.

Honesty I'm not surprised. All of there games had to be hemorrhaging money for years. DCUO flopping, PS2 feeling clunky and slow, and EQ next never seeing the light day for years...I'd half expect day break to pull the plug in all the games and start fresh.

PS2 was one of their key moneymakers. Slow and clunky? That's like the opposite of PS2. In fact, for a lot of people, it was streamlined too much.

Yeah, PS2 made it's budget back quite quickly if I remember correctly.

Yeah, it was anything but slow and clunky.

My guess, to use the IP's for shitty f2p games and mobile garbage.
