More details are emerging on Whore of the Orient, the next title from L.A. Noire developer Team Bondi. Warner Brothers will be publishing the title, which is aiming for release on next generation consoles and PC.

The Team Bondi site (via OXM) has been updated with background for the title, set in Shanghai in 1936: "The most corrupt and decadent city on the planet, where anything can be had or done for the right price. Plaything of Western powers who greedily exploit the Chinese masses. Boiling pot of Chinese nationalism, with the Kuomintang ruthlessly trying to suppress Communism and the labour movement. Home to the International Police Force, a group of Western cops hopelessly trying to keep the lid on and keep the peace."

This will be the first new IP from Team Bondi since KMM took over the studio, having bailed it out of a tough financial situation in August 2011, after a fallout with Rockstar Games.

I dunno, we've already had The Ballad of Gay Tony

Good point, but gay is also a lot less directly insulting than whore is. If I for some reason ever bought games in a store any more I'd have a tough time saying "Hey, could I pick up a copy of Whore of the Orient?" to the clerk, just because what the fuck.

Name needs to be changed but I dig the idea... not likely to come out anytime in the near future and most likely is going to be riddled with bugs.

Surprised anyone would risk backing that dev after LA Noire. They must have signed off on this before the whole blow up after Noire released.

Well say what you want about Team Bondi, they've got some incredible settings. First a pitch perfect 1940's California and now "set in Shanghai in 1936: "The most corrupt and decadent city on the planet, where anything can be had or done for the right price. Plaything of Western powers who greedily exploit the Chinese masses. Boiling pot of Chinese nationalism, with the Kuomintang ruthlessly trying to suppress Communism and the labour movement.
