Battlefield 4 to stay in 'the modern day'
by Andrew Yoon, Aug 13, 2012 2:15pm PDTGiven Battlefield 4's quick turnaround after 3, it's probably unsurprising to hear that the game won't be straying too far from its predecessor. Developer DICE isn't planning on following the footsteps of Treyarch's Black Ops 2 by going into the future. Instead, the game will be set in the "modern day as it is."
Speaking at GDC Europe, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson talked about how "we feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful."
The Battlefield franchise did jump into the future with 2142. However, Troedsson told audiences (via Joystiq) that the team simply wants "to stay in this genre."
While the prospect of yet another modern-day Frostbite 2-powered military FPS may lose some of its luster given the back-to-back release of Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter, DICE promises the company will diversify its offerings. "That doesn't mean there might not be a Bad Company game again in the future," Troedsson teased.

It's fun, but it's certainly NOT Battlefield.
I want to see the last two expansion packs. Armored Kill looks like what I want out of Battlefield3 and there isn't much information on End Game, yet.
