Telltale has been doing quite well with its game based on The Walking Dead comic. However, Activision has its own game coming out as well, one based on the AMC television series.

The Walking Dead will be a first-person shooter developed by Terminal Reality (Kinect Star Wars). The game serves as a prequel as players control Daryl and Merle Dixon on a "haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta."

Players will have to be stealthy and scavenge the environment for supplies, food, and ammo. Like in Telltale's game, Daryl will encounter other characters, and whether or not these characters help you will be dependent on the "major decisions" you make while playing.

The game will be available in 2013 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. IGN has the first trailer for the game, which has absolutely zero gameplay footage.

I love both the books and the TV (and I'm going to eventually get the Telltale games) but this sounds like a bad idea and I'm not interested in the slightest.

I kinda lost the interest in the comics after the prison and the TV series just seems too slow for me, but the Telltale games are actually pretty awesome. I'm in the same boat with you that this sounds like a bad idea unless maybe they make it a survival action like STALKER games. I kinda doubt it though...

The Telltale games are incredibly good. This just sounds like a bad idea from the start coming from Terminal Reality. If it was another developer, I might have higher expectations.

Between Left 4 Dead 2 and Killing Floor, I've played enough zombie FPS games.

Sad to see Terminal Reality turn into a "gun-for-hire developer", chasing after movie / TV tie-in games, like Liquid Entertainment (Thor) and Double Helix (Battleship).

So it's an FPAdventure, and not a shooter. Sounds like a terrible idea. Then again, I don;t think they're going to invest a lot of money on this.

Ugh, And I'm sure these will get more exposure than the Telltale games because Activision has a way bigger marketing budget.

This is just upsetting, Activision publishing another fps to milk another franchise and one I really care about. I'm reading the comics, watched the shows and played the Tell Tale series thus far and my problem here isn't that this game will be an fps but rather that it won't be made with an deep understanding and consideration of the walking dead universe and it'll be a bad game over all, like the Harry Potter Deathly Hallows games...

Hold up, so I get to play as MERLE, the despicable racist and Neo-Nazi from the TV series? Exactly how is this a good idea!?!

Oh, my bad, I guess you only play as Darryl, with Merle along for the ride, whispering bigoted sweet nothings into your ear. Still a BAD IDEA.

Tripps, if you want to live out your fantasy of being a card-carrying member of the KKK, be my guest. I'm just not interested in playing Merle, who is a racist, or Darryl, who might be a racist. Even with that aside, they are still redneck stereotypes. Well written and interesting to watch on tv, but throw them into a generic first person shooter as the protagonists and well, you have Redneck Rampage all over again. No thanks.
