Syndicate debut trailer gets into your head

The first trailer for Starbreeze's FPS reboot of the Syndicate series has arrived, with a fine display of mindhacks, melee moves, and man-shooting.

A dystopian cyberpunk new FPS from Starbreeze Studios certainly sounds exciting, but Syndicate's use of the beloved vintage real-time tactical Bullfrog property causes some to pause. The debut trailer has just launched, so have a watch and see if it's looking good enough for you to set aside your curmudgeonly ways.

The trailer shows hacking into enemies' heads and commanding them to do terrible deeds, melee moves, zipline infiltration, amateur surgery, and, of course, grim dystopian environments. FPS melee can be difficult for developers to pull off, but with The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena's pleasing stabbing and tentacle-y swipes in The Darkness, Starbreeze has experience in the field.

Publisher EA has also released a second round of screenshots.

While there's little that can help if an enemy hacker gets into your head, if the trailer's soundtrack by dubstep wobble bass abuser Skrillex is stuck in that noggin of yours, you can download it simply by 'Liking' Syndicate on Facebook.

As revealed earlier this week, Syndicate is headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 21, 2012.

That's pretty much how it works. I am glad for what looks to be a cool FPRPG in the making, but I am not glad for Syndicate having to be sacrificed in order to get it.

Yeah, why does Syndicate have to not be Syndicate anymore just so some producer dickhead at EA can have the extra "not a new franchise, honest!" bullet point to help him justify a cyberpunk fps he wanted to make?

I think my head would have exploded if I was suddenly witnessing an almost 20 year jump in technology. Shit, I'm playing through Doom 3 again and ogling at how cool the graphics are!

          Trustful answer?

My younger self would have said "What the hell is this crap?". Keep in mind, I played the original Syndicate a few years after its actual release, so I wasn't a tot or anything.

FoV will be too low for a 15" 4:3 screen and either unmodifiable or broken if not. Make me eat my words, Starbreeze. Fixa det här nu för fan.

Ok, after auctally watching the trailer with the sound muted (played HyperPower! instead) it dosen't look that bad.

But why Syndicate and not their own IP?

Also why skrillex and Miles Kilo

Well, that was badass. Very interested now, and I'm a recovering Syndicate Wars junkie. Kind of makes me wonder if I liked the game (SW), or if I was simply in love with the techno-noir tone and atmosphere, which they seem to have nailed in this new game.

Hypest trailer I've seen in a long time. The combat looks immensely fun and varied which will be the main selling point for me. I knew Starbreeze wouldn't disappoint. And we've not an age to wait for it too! Shun the curmudgeons!

Apparently if you like the game on facebook you can download the track for free ( there should be a link in the youtube vid )

      How is that syndicate?

Its Killzone. Dont get me wrong i like Killzone but FPS is not what syndicTe needed fr a rivival.

Fast paced linear shooters are dead to me, it might have worked as a 3rd person tactical game but not like this

Yes. Now for single player they should just allow you to switch into your converted side-agents, like in Hidden & Dangerous where you could switch from one guy to another and take control of him.
