Ubisoft has a hit on its hands. The publisher has announced that From Dust has "broken record digital sales for Ubisoft," by having the highest first-day sales of any Xbox Live Arcade game that Ubisoft has ever released.

There are multiple reasons for the game's tremendous success. It could be the fact that this is the first Ubisoft game to participate in Microsoft's annual Summer of Arcade promotion. It's also, for the time being, exclusive to the Xbox 360, meaning sales can't be spread over multiple platforms. Finally, it's also pretty good.

According to the publisher, sales are "approximately 45 percent higher than Ubisoft's previous best-selling XBLA release." We followed up with the publisher, who told us that "in no particular order, the closest day one frontrunners were Beyond Good & Evil, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

Sorry Jade, you just can't win, can you?

"From Dust is another great example of Ubisoft’s ongoing commitment to bring original intellectual properties and brands to the digital space," Chris Early, vice president of digital publishing, said in a press release. "Ubisoft is a creative company dedicated to delivering innovative and engaging content for all types of players – whether it’s a big retail game or a short format digital title such as From Dust."

Up next for Ubisoft is the PC version of the game, slated for release on August 17th. According to the publisher, it is "also tracking very well." A PlayStation Network release is happening "soon."

"The highest first-day sales of any Xbox Live Arcade game that Ubisoft has ever released."

So its only selling a lot compared to their previous titles in Xbla, not compared to the total sales of all the games in Xbla.

That is really no big deal.

I wonder if they've had many XBLA games.

Yeah, looking at the list of their other XBLA titles they've developed I don't think it'd be hard to do

        BG&E:HD
        Scott Pilgrim
        Chessmaster Live
        Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
        TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled
        Voodoo Dice
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes HD
        CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars

BG&E and Clash of Heroes deserved every sale!

Oh absolutely. Those are both excellent games, but I don't think they were destined to be exceptionally big sellers.

I like it, but it really needs a mouse.

Maybe for about 3 of the challenge maps, and even then, a lot of the harder challenge maps require you to use the triggers to control the rate of "dumping". It'll be interesting to see how they handle that on PC.

I wonder how they will handle the control for dumping material with a mouse... on the controller you use the analog triggers to release the material at different rates.

Is this really news? This seems more like marketing.

Do you guys just print every release statement you get your hands on?

Hopefully PC sales are strong enough for them to stop treating us like crap.

I can tell you right now several things about this hope.

        1) It will not, because of their horrific DRM for everything that lands on the best gaming platform ever.
        2) Even if it sold one hundred million copies they would still treat us like crap because they are ass holes.

Luckily they said no DRM is coming for From Dust, but your second point is truer than ever :(

I'm just glad that something by Eric Chahi is making money. Maybe his next game won't come out 10 years from now.

I like the fact that it's reminiscent of Populous: The Beginning in the fact that you are a "god" but not really. It's nice to see a Populous-esque game come out finally. It's been too long.
