Dust 514 announced as PS3 exclusive
by Xav de Matos, Jun 06, 2011 6:12pm PDTEVE Online developer CCP has announced that its upcoming persistent shooter entitled Dust 514 will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3. The game will share the same world as CCP's cult-hit MMO EVE Online.
The MMO-FPS was first announced in 2009. The PlayStation 3 version of Dust 514 will feature support for Move and a dedicated Home space, along with unnamed support for Sony's upcoming NGP device.
Dust 514 will have a closed beta later this year and a "full release" in 2012. It's still unclear if the game is specifically exclusive on console only, or will also come to the PC.

Basically, there is a new currency that is about to enter the game in EVE Online with the next expansion (Incarna) called aurum. CCP had been a little mum on the whys of this currency being created other than that it'll be used to by the various microtransaction stuff that'll be coming available. Things like clothes, ship paint jobs, corp logos on ships, etc (not weapons or anything like that). This item will also be used in Dust so having the economy already flowing in EVE Online where they will be sharing market, it'll make sense. With that much connection, this also explains the serious need to move to a 64bit item ID system.
