Sony Online Entertainment pulled due to intrusion

Strange news got a little bit stranger today, as Sony Online Entertainment has pulled its service due to a new revelation during the course of its investigation into the PlayStation Network data theft. SOE services seem to be down, and the official site (via GamePolitics) updated this morning with the following message:

We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).

What makes this particularly odd is that until today, Sony has claimed that SOE servers were safe, thanks to keeping its services and databases separate from those of PlayStation Network. Now it sounds like SOE databases may have been compromised as well, but Sony may just be erring on the side of caution.

The company was already planning to compensate players of PlayStation 3 MMOs like DC Universe Online and Free Realms for the inconvenience of the outage. The company has also outlined its appreciation program for PSN users.

Keep trolling people... It's obvious they are going through all their networks and fixing the original problems... It's the same intrusion as the first one, deep breaths everyone... now stop typing your crying..
