Morning Discussion
After my hard drive was wiped yesterday, I've whacked an old drive into my PC to at least get it running again until I can make headway with recovering my files. I've discovered a treasure trove of goodies, including a folder of text files with such useful information as my Kali serial and Tribes 2 key, and a monstrously complex modem string that I suspect is broken and does nothing useful. 2001, let's rock.

What are the pc requirements for running a MC client? I bought this for the woman last night for us to play on a private server, but it lagged a lot on her comp. She's running it on a Portegé r600, dual-core 1,2ghz 3gig ram.
Also, she got diconnected from the server with her client showing "generic failure" every time after 10-15 seks into the game. Any hints?-

The only thing that really matters is video card. If you are using a integrated video card... good luck. If you have no other choice. Make sure fog is on small or normal(normal runs faster than small on some laptops). Turn graphics to fast. Install correct version of Java(If your OS is 64bit, make sure you have the 64bit version of java installed, this fixes the black screen crash). Install Optimine. Install Mipmapping mod. Google minecraft tweaks and you'll find more. Also, you probably should run the server on a more powerful machine. Mines a quad 3.0ghz with 4gigs of ram.

Actually... here you go!

I've gotten really comfortable with Bukkit so feel free to ask me any questions.-

They each have their own config files. Generally plugins with files keep them in their own folders. So that config.yml I linked goes into /plugins/Permissions/. And then the one for Essentials goes in /plugins/Essentials/
Permissions is just a special plugin that controls access to specific commands within other plugins. It took me a while to wrap my head around... but once you get it, it's really powerful.
For referenece, I'm using:
-Essentials (The newer versions are actually split into 5(?) separate plugins)
-Permissions
-WorldEdit
-WorldGuard
-BlockDrops
-BorderGuard
-SimpleGod

For people who run servers and have lag issues. I've said this a million times but I don't think I have said it here. I was having all kinds of horrible lag problems and I could not figure out why. I tried everything they said to do to speed up the server and none of it did anything impressive. Then I came across a MC server hosting OS that can be loaded up into Virtual Box. Since I've done this my server has never needed to be restarted(~2months) and it doesn't lag at all. And one of my players is in Qatar, and I'm in Canada. I highly highly recommend using this software:
http://minecraft.codeemo.com/index.html
and VirtualBox if you don't have a dedicated PC for your server:

Oh, I forgot to explain a little why this works so good. I won't get into any great detail but the two main things MineOS has going for it is one, it uses RAM disk. So your world is always in RAM and this is incredibly fast, this gets rid of chunk loading lag completely. The second thing being that you pick how much ram is dedicated to it and this stops leaking. Both of these added with the Linux core and optimization for MC make this thing blazing fast.
