    Mac OS X help.

For some reason now every file or folder I delete is not going to the Trash, but is deleted immediately. A dialog box pops up asking if I want to delete immediately. If I choose Cancel, no action is taken. Happens also if I drag the file or folder to the Trash.

What gives? This is on the local hard drive of my MacBook, and I'm not holding any modifier keys. Also, there is lots of free space left.
