Morning Discussion
by Jeff "geedeck" Gondek, Jan 22, 2008 12:33am PSTGreetings Shackers and welcome to the world of tomorrow. I know, you'll miss your old threads but these are fresh and clean, they'll have to do. Don't miss our interview with Garage Games about their new title Fallen Empires, one might call it the spiritual sequel to Tribes but I would hate to sell it short. In other news, North American XBox Live should be able to download The Club demo if shooting things is your fancy.
Here's what we've been blogging about:

I just submitted my humble little video project 24: Hour Pizza Delivery - Episode 2 to break. It would be great if you guys would go there and click the little up hand to the right of the video voting it up. Once videos are submitted if they do well they can get hand selected to be put on the front page. Episode 1 made the front page which got over half a million views on there.
They also lowered the quality of the video when selecting it for the front page and they also never paid. But its good exposure and thus far episode 2 has done terribly at getting any exposure.

I salt and peppered a thin pork chop then sauteed it for a few minutes in olive oil on medium high heat. Then I removed the bone and put it on a sourdough baguette with sliced St. Andre triple creme cheese, sauerkraut, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale mustard. I accompanied it with Newcastle Brown Ale.
This might sound like an odd combination of stuff, with the brie in there, but holy shit it was good. I'd make another one right now but I have no bread left.

You know how when you fast forward and then hit play, it doesn't start playing where you are (5-10 seconds past the end of the commercial break, likely), it backs up a couple seconds so that you don't miss anything? It vastly underestimates my reflexes and as a result it's way more annoying than if I had to rewind by myself. Is there any way to turn that off?

So I decided that 3 gallon tank is not going to make me happy. As much as I wanted to keep it small, I am too excited to have something that small. I have decided to go with the 12 gallon Nano Cube http://www.petsolutions.com/default.aspx?ItemId=92412032&EID=92412032&SID=FROOGLE for only $99.00. It should do me well and have plenty of light and filters for me. I did realize that I need a protein skimmer and they sell one for the nano cube. Maybe I can buy that with the next check.
So here is my modified plan.
1. Buy the nano cube.
2. Go to the local fish store and buy some live sand.
3. A guy at the local fish store sells water from this massive empty tank for $1.00 a gallon. he has no fish living in the tank, just water that he pre-mixes.
4. Wait a day or two and take the water back and have it tested to make sure it is OK to put some live rock in and then buy a couple of pieces.
5. Wait a week and take the water back and test it and then buy a clown fish.
What do you shackers think about this idea?

After such amazing recommendations from the shack community I've ordered an iPod Touch!
I managed to get it for $260 shipped, but it doesn't come with the updated firmware :(
Where might I find cool jailbreak software to make it more awesome?

The xw4400 is in, and it looks rather nice. 1.86 GHz C2D, 1.0 GB RAM, and a Quadro FX 560. That ought to be enough. The hard drive is a 160 GB DeskStar; hopefully that line has a relatively good reputation, but I think I'll get her a USB hard drive just in case. This thing is running rather fast for an OEM install.
I need to hunt down some good antivirus software (i.e.: not Symantec or McAfee; something that could actually seek and destroy malware spread by websites, because that's what took out her previous computer). I also need a Linux boot disk that can mount NTFS so I can scour the old system's drive for her important files. Recommendations?
