XBLA Super Meat Boy Getting Fan-Made and 'Expert Remix' Levels Next Week

People complain about games getting too easy, but these people have not played Super Meat Boy. The indie-turned-XBLA game hangs its hat on being tough as nails, and next week it's going to get even tougher.

Team Meat tweeted (via Joystiq) that the first fan-made chapter and the Expert Remix chapter should hit Xbox Live Arcade next week through its sneaky back door. If a week seems like too long to wait for harder Super Meat Boy levels, you could always smash your fingers one-by-one with a hammer. Emotionally it will feel about the same.

Spyro Returns as Activision's Game/Toy Crossover

At Activisions Q4 2010 earnings call, the company announced an impending toy cross-promotion to be unveiled at Toy Fair. Today the company revealed Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, a multi-platform revival of the adorable dragon with interactive toys to be sold in stores like Toys 'R' Us.

Guitar Hero and DJ Hero DLC Coming to an End

Soon after Activision Blizzard announced it would scale back its entire music-based video game business due to declining profits, Shacknews contacted the publisher to find out whether its current crop of music titles would continue to see DLC support. Call of Duty: Black Ops 'First Strike' DLC Hitting PS3 on March 3, PC Later

The Xbox 360 exclusivity period for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 'First Strike' map pack will end up being a touch over a month, as Activision Blizzard confirmed today that it'll be released for PlayStation 3 on March 3. The PC release will follow "later in the quarter," which ends on March 31 on Activision's calender.

The company also revealed that First Strike racked up over 1.5 million downloads within the first 24 hours when it launched for Xbox 360 on February 1, priced at for 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15). Read more »

Rock Band DLC: Bob Marley

An octet of tracks from reggae superstar Bob Marley will make up this week's batch of Rock Band 3 downloadable content, developer Harmonix has announced, including 'Burnin' and Lootin',' 'Kaya' and 'Them Belly Full (But We Hungry).'

The songs will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii on February 6. One song will cost you $2 (160 Microsoft Points; 200 Wii Points), while the full track pack will be $13.49 (1080 MS Points, 1350 Wii Points). Only one track, 'Them Belly Full,' will receive a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade, which costs $0.99. Read more »

Double XP this Weekend in Call of Duty: Black Ops

This weekend, Treyarch is hosting its first "Double XP" multiplayer event in its commercial smash-hit Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Though the event was surely scheduled to coincide with the release of the game's first downloadable content pack, players on all platforms are invited to the additional experience. The DLC pack, "First Strike," is currently only available on the Xbox 360. Read more »
