EA Sports Season Ticket to include over $100 of DLC this year

EA Sports' Season Ticket program is coming back for another year. And it provides a far greater value than last year's debut offering.

As before, the $25 Season Ticket grants you early access to this season's games. You'll be able to download an early version of Madden, NHL, FIFA, Tiger Woods, and NCAA three days before its retail release via PlayStation Network or Xbox Live. Note that while these games are fully playable for three days with the membership, you'll have to actually buy a copy if you want to play beyond the trial period.

FIFA Soccer 13 to incorporate real-world injuries and suspensions

When players get hurt in real life, they will get hurt in the video game. It's like we're living in The Matrix, man.

FIFA Soccer 13 will add a new feature called "EA Sports Football Club Match Day" that incorporates real-world news into the game. "Real-world drama such as injuries, suspensions, team form, and media gossip will be reflected through in-game commentary and play out in-game," the announcement promises.

FIFA Soccer 13 for Wii U preview

FIFA Soccer 13 for Wii U preview

For ardent Nintendo fans, simply offering HD support makes Wii U a worthwhile enough purchase. However, many others are still looking for a "killer app"--something that showcases the value of Nintendo's unique tablet-style controller. Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends stole the show for us at E3. However, both games have been usurped by a surprise contender: FIFA Soccer 13.

FIFA 13 for Wii U has touch screen passing, tackling

Thanks to the console's touch screen, the Wii U version of FIFA Soccer 13 will be a lot like the PS Vita version of the game. A variety of the game's features will be controlled through touch, including passing, tackling, and shooting.

For example, you can aim precisely where you want to kick the ball by first shaking the controller (or pressing L3) and then touching the spot you want to aim at. You'll also be able to defend using the touch screen, tapping on the player you want to control. You can then tap on attacking players to mark or tackle him. Once you gain control of the ball, you'll be able to pass by tapping at teammates.

EA Sports stopped by Microsoft's press briefing to show off the Kinect features of two sports titles: FIFA Soccer 13 and Madden NFL 13. As you might expect, both games still let you use the controller as normal, but use the Kinect for voice commands.

Xbox Live general manager addresses security concerns

In honor of "Safer Internet Day" today, Xbox Live's general manager Alex Garden has published a lengthy, if still a bit vague, letter to the community. He outlines a commitment to be watchful, but stops short of naming the impetus for the concerns.

"Last year, there was a surge of personal information being compromised and sold, and this undoubtedly has had an impact on all of us," Garden wrote, ignoring the elephant in the room: the money laundering scam that has used FIFA 12 to compromise accounts and charge users for content.

FIFA Ultimate Team generated $39 million

FIFA Ultimate Team generated $39 million

The microtransaction-powered Ultimate Team add-on to the FIFA franchise has become a tremendous money-maker for Electronic Arts. In the three months following the launch of FIFA Soccer 12, the publisher has generated $39 million.

While that's good news for EA, it certainly feels shady in light of accusations that hackers are laundering money via FIFA 12 on Xbox Live.

Editorial: EA's response to FIFA 12 'money laundering' on Xbox Live, part two

Last night, Shacknews detailed a hack that has been plaguing Xbox 360 users for a few months. Some players have seen their Xbox Live accounts hijacked and--with the use of EA's FIFA 12--charges have been made to purchase content that can be traded to other users.

Hackers go in, purchase the content, transfer it to a "front" account, and sell the content for real world money. Microsoft is aware of the issue, but says the situation isn't widespread. EA on the other hand, has not issued a statement regarding the Xbox Live attacks--until now.

Editorial: How FIFA 12 is at the heart of an Xbox Live money laundering scam, part one

On December 20, my Xbox Live account was hacked. The breach was sophisticated, more so than Microsoft wants to acknowledge, but at the heart of it is EA's popular sports franchise FIFA.

This breach isn't a new, hip hack that is sweeping the net, it has been happening for quite some time. My Xbox Live account housed over 3,000 MS Points and in one fell swoop, my balance was wiped clean.

Utilizing FIFA 12, players can purchase and trade digital cards with other Live members. Though this feature is also available in games like Madden NFL 12, the worldwide popularity of FIFA 12 has made it a breeding ground for criminal scum. Players get into Xbox Live accounts, purchase card packs, trade them to other accounts, and later sell the content for real money. Xbox Live breaches are not new, but the FIFA 12 hack is putting everyone on Xbox Live at risk in a new way.
