[Update] EA has confirmed to Shacknews that the pack will cost $2.99.

Nine fly 'signature' rides are coming Need for Speed: The Run as downloadable content next week in the 'Signature Edition Booster Pack.' The tricked-out and tarted-up cars are racing towards Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on December 20, but not PC.

Aren't you tired of all the artsy games that Silicon Valley insists on shoving in your face? Sometimes, you just want some mindless entertainment and some explosions. Thankfully, EA is breaking the nonstop onslaught of experimental, cerebral titles coming out this holiday with Need for Speed The Run and Michael Bay.

The Transformers director has created a television commercial for EA's upcoming racing title, which will air during Monday Night Football next week.

The venerable Need for Speed franchise is getting yet another dramatic makeover with the upcoming The Run. The story-driven experience will take players across America, in a race from San Francisco to New York City. But, is it any good?

You'll be able to find out for yourself when the downloadable demo hits Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on October 18.

Need for Speed: The Run Limited Edition announced

Need for Speed: The Run will be getting its own Limited Edition, which includes three cars and five exclusive challenges. For you gear-heads, the cars include the Lamborghini Aventador, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and the Porche 911 Carrera S. Notably, the press release explicitly calls the challenges exclusive, but not the cars, so non-LE buyers may get a chance behind the wheels of those rides.

Over 200 layoffs struck Skate developer EA Black Box today, according to a Gamasutra report that cites multiple development sources.

As Gamasutra points out, the loss of 200 jobs more than halves the studio's 350-strong workforce. It had previously been reported that EA Black Box would soon be closed, with staff moving to a nearby office to continue work on its associated franchises. Read more »

As Electronic Arts continues to implement its cost-cutting plan, which will see the company shed 10% of its global workforce by March's end, new reports indicate that Madden developer Tiburon and Skate 2 developer Black Box are among the latest hit.

Though EA has already said it will close Black Box, the studio's development teams and "associated game franchises" were said to be moving to a nearby office, with Kotaku's report suggesting that not all of the Black Box staff will make the transition. Read more »

EA Closing Need for Speed, Skate Dev. Black Box, 'At Least' Eight Others

Electronic Arts has revealed that it will be closing "at least" nine facilities as part of its restructuring plan, including Need for Speed and Skate developer Black Box.

With Black Box closed, EA will relocate the studio's development teams and "associated game franchises" to a nearby office in Burnaby, British Columbia. The other "studio and publishing locations" facing closure were not named in the announcement. Read more »

Need for Speed Undercover Arrives November 18, Stars 'Box Office Sensation' Maggie Q

Electronic Arts today revealed Need for Speed Undercover, with PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP editions of the racer slated to hit North America on November 18 and Europe on November 21.
