Capcom loves Frank West, so much that the photojournalist has not only teamed up with Dead Rising 2 protagonist Chuck Greene in the Case West downloadable content, but now the company is actually making a Frank-centric version of the full game. He's covered wars, you know.
Capcom announced Dead Rising 2: Off the Record -- a "reimagining" of the Fortune City outbreak starring Frank -- at its annual Captivate event. The game brings back the photo opportunities of the first game, along with new combo weapons, environments, and enemies. Capcom also promises feature upgrades and network improvements to make online play smoother. Read more »

Citing the "substantial underperformance" of Lost Planet 2 as one hurdle--relative to sales projections--within the last six-month period, Capcom revealed its net profits were down for the first-half of the fiscal year 2010, while sales were up.
In the report, Capcom noted that sales increased to 4.7 percent during the fiscal year (which ends on March 31, 2011), while net profit dropped 39.9 percent. Read more »

Although they will no longer provide any of those pesky "numbers" we all like so much, the NPD Group has released its report for the month of September. As Microsoft announced earlier, Halo: Reach topped the charts, selling 3.3 million units in its first month of sale.
Capcom's Dead Rising 2 took the third spot across three platforms, despite launching on September 28 in North America. EA Sports saw three of its titles land in September's top ten, with Madden NFL 11, NHL 11, and FIFA Soccer 11 invading the month's top five sellers. New exclusive titles Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for the PSP and Nintendo Wii's Metroid: Other M also had strong debuts. Note: The NPD Group no longer lists software as individual platforms. Sales for all platforms will now be combined when listed in the "Top Ten" and no figures will be released to the public from the NPD Group. Read more »

Dead Rising 2 senior producer Josh Bridge laid out some of the DLC planned for Dead Rising 2 in a post on the PlayStation Blog. Four packs--originally offered as pre-order bonuses across multiple retailers--staggered over the coming four weeks, give the game's lead character, Chuck, new outfits with associated special powers. Though announced on the PlayStation Blog, Shacknews confirmed with Capcom that the same packs will be available simultaneously on Xbox Live.
First up is the "Psychopath" pack, due on October 12. It offers a horror movie look with a soiled apron and sinister mask. Donning these makes Chuck stronger and deadlier with classic "tools of the trade" like the chainsaw, cleavers, axes, and machetes. Read more »

The Xbox 360 is to receive another exclusive Dead Rising 2 episode, this time in the form of an epilogue featuring the original Dead Rising's hero, photojournalist Frank West.
Dead Rising 2: Case West will have Frank helping the sequel's star Chuck Greene to clear his name, complete with a co-op mode that Capcom explains "will see the two protagonists delve deeper into the reasons behind the Fortune City outbreak and provide further links to the Willamette incident." It appears that Capcom's Xbox Live Arcade/Demo experiment has paid off. Today, the publisher revealed that the XBLA-exclusive "prologue experience" Dead Rising 2: Case Zero has "broken all records on Xbox Live" selling more units in one week than "all content" distributed in the downloadable platform's history.
According to GamerBytes, more than 320,000 users were found on the Dead Rising 2: Case Zero leaderboards seven days after the game launched. According to their estimate, Capcom could have raked roughly $1.15 million for the downloadable prequel. Of course, Capcom insists that "these are NOT official numbers." Read more »

Dead Rising 2's upcoming XBLA-exclusive prologue, Case Zero, has been pushed from its original release date in Japan. Andriasang reports that the delay is due to undisclosed "violent" content sneaking its way into the game's free trial, which is funny considering the nature of the product as a whole.
The questionable content will still available in the full version of Dead Rising 2: Case Zero when it eventually launches. According to Famitsu, the delay for the downloadable title will not affect the release date for the full retail Dead Rising sequel in the region. Read more »
