Borderlands 2 Xbox 360 patch targets save-wiping hack

Borderlands 2 Xbox 360 patch targets save-wiping hack

A particularly nasty exploit in the Xbox 360 edition of Borderlands 2 saw players' characters wiped if they happened to play online with someone who used a hack, making the usually-oh-so-friendly Xbox Live a potential deathtrap for your vault hunter. The promised patch to fix it has now been rolled out, so you should be as safe online with random strangers as you'll ever be.

Borderlands Web series begins Season 2

Borderlands Web series begins Season 2

Borderlands 2 has been out for quite a while, but who says it's too late to fire up a Web series? Not Gearbox, apparently, which launched season two of its Claptrap shorts. The irascible robot takes a comical look behind the scenes of the game, and uses blunt-force trauma as a teaching tool.

Borderlands 2 exploit deletes player saves on Xbox 360

If you value your precious saved games in Borderlands 2 on Xbox 360, you'd best only play with those you trust. Playing online with those using a hacked exploit runs the risk of wiping your characters afterwards.

Borderlands 2 'Booty' provides wealth of content, actual wealth

Borderlands 2 'Booty' provides wealth of content, actual wealth

The first Borderlands was a reasonable hit at launch, but it truly stuck the landing on downloadable content. When DLC was more of a wild west concept, it was one of the games that did it right. The content was substantial, relatively inexpensive, and added value to the product as a whole. It set a high bar for Borderlands 2, making its first expansion, "Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty," a proving ground for Gearbox to show it still had the old mojo. And while it certainly isn't the game-changer of the free Mechromancer class (for Premier Club members), Scarlett adds quite a bit of booty for your buck.

How Borderlands 2's Mechromancer adds difficulty levels to the game

How Borderlands 2's Mechromancer adds difficulty levels to the game

Borderlands 2 doesn't let you choose from difficulty levels. Players are expected to deal with the game's various difficulty spikes by teaming up online, or grinding and soldiering through. This limitation is what makes the new Mechromancer class stand out as such an interesting addition: Gaige's skill trees replicate a more traditional difficulty scale.

Gearbox lead designer John Hemingway created a stir when he referred to one of the skill trees as "girlfriend mode." But indelicate phrasing aside, he was right that the skill tree seems custom-tailored to serve as an "Easy" mode. What Hemingway didn't mention was that the other two skill trees function as "Medium" and "Hard" modes, respectively.
