Age of Empires: World Domination is mobile, free-to-play

The Age of Empires series is coming to mobile. "World Domination" will be free-to-play, and it will be available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone this summer.

The upcoming mobile game will feature over 100 "legendary heroes" to choose from, across history's "greatest civilizations," including the Vikings, Celts, Franks, and Huns. Players will use touch gestures to lead troops in a battle system that was created "just for mobile."

Age of Empires Online content was too expensive to produce, too sparse for players

Age of Empires Online has ceased active development and is now shifting into a "support" phase. That means no new content or features are coming, other than a few remaining minor updates that will be released over the next few weeks. Gas Powered Games says it still plans to support the game with Community Challenges, streams, contests, and PvP tournaments.

Age of Empires Online will use Season Pass

Age of Empires Online will use Season Pass

[Update: 8/17] We have corrections to issue regarding this story. The $99.99 Season Pass includes all of the content for the first six months, which amounts to 30% off the regular price if purchased separately. Also, development of Age of Empires Online has been taken over by Gas Powered Games. Shacknews regrets the errors.

[Original Story] Age of Empires Online will support a Season Pass system for premium content discounts, Microsoft announced at Gamescom today. The discounts only last for a limited time, though, so it probably won't see you all the way through the lifespan of the free-to-play strategy title.
