In the chatty changes thread, when it was mentioned that posts would survive for only 24 hours from the time of their root posting, I thought it might be better if after the 24 hours, if the thread is still active, it should survive another hour or two. If it gets posted to again, it gets another stay of execution until it's actually been dead for an hour, then it dies forever off the main chatty.
This way old thread would still die generally after 24 hours and stay dead but if there happens to be a particularly engaging thread, it sticks around until it's died down a bit.
Had this concept been considered before? Are there reasons this would be inferior to the hard limit of 24 hours of thread life?
