firingsquads June 25 2001 review of the 1.4Ghz tbird has it at a launch price of $253, the Pentium II 233Mhz launched at $686 (according to zdnet)
the 1.4Ghz Thunderbird is what... 8x-10x faster than the Pentium 2? (keeping in mind IPC and bandwidth gains as well as raw clock)
