The new Frostbite 2.0 engine will be DirectX 10 and 11 exclusive, no DX9 path will be supported.
A DICE developer Johan Andersson has tweeted: 'Frostbite 2 is primarily developed for DX11. XP & DX9 is _not_ supported, 64-bit OS is recommended. Lots of time to upgrade if you havent!' Oh well. Windows XP is almost ten years old now, expect this more and more.
This is AWESOME news. I wish someone would take it further and wave a magic wand and say "for now on, all PC games have to use DX10 or DX11(or open GL =) and 64bit OS.
I feel like this is the year that we are gona see massive PC gaming progression, I hope I am right.
Do you guys think its time to dump DX9 and 32bit OS or is there tones of juice left in DX9 and really most engine devs are just lazy or constrained by consoles?

Ask any one that codes for the 360 or PS3 their major constraint and world revolves around memory. Try writing a app with only 512megs of mem.
Take our PCs and their memory its a joke in comparison. There is practically no constraints at all with a 64bit OS. Take the following:
12gig of DDR3 mem $112

4 gig of DDR3 mem $45
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=42745&vpn=F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL&manufacture=G.Skill&promoid=1276
That is a shit load of mem and its dirt cheap, do you remember the days with a 100mhz Pentium sys when you had 16megs sys mem and bumped it to 32 then 64? It made a massive difference in the PC games, now a days mem just sits there un used and idle.
If mem was utilized on a native 64Bit pure environment I am sure we would see massive progressions in all PC gaming and over applications and OS in general.
Well at least thats my take why I want 32 dead, its holding things back and not giving a reason to use all that glorious memory.
